How long does it take approx , for foot to stop swelling after thr.
Mine didn't stop until I kept it up above heart laying in bed for a week. But I had whole leg major swelling.
I'm not going to be a huge help as I had no outward swelling after my left thr. I kept my hip and legs elevated from day one and I iced with gel packs I got on Amazon. I did this every night. We have an adjustable bed so it was easy for me to raise feet and hips. During the day I sat in a recliner which I had bought an extra cushion to hold my hips up. I iced during day too. I did get some ankle and lower leg swelling on a day that I got too ambitious and shopped 3 stores and went up and down stairs twice at 2 months post op. When I did that I got swelling and extreme pain as it had inflamed my IT Band. Your's does not sound the same. I am 70 and had not been active for about 1 ½ yrs, so muscle tone was not there. It took resting 3 weeks to cure my issue although swelling went down in about 3 days. Now I am 4 months post op but it is going very slowly as far as strength and mobility. I have no pain unless I do too much that day. My doctor explained I will recover the same as everyone, it is just going to take longer. I had a fall and knee trauma on an already bad knee joint in 2016 and had it replaced on that same leg, so I had been fairly immobile for a long while.
Best to you,
Peg
Hi Lynne, I believe mine took approximately 3-4 weeks, and that's wearing the stockings, icing and elevating on pillows. My husband swears it was the tomato juice and soups, also the 99% aloe vera lotion he applied to my foot and ankles. The healing process takes time, and its difficult to stay patient but eventually it will all work itself out. Good luck to you!

I think this is a piece of string question. My original THR I had no swelling in my leg or foot. But with my 2 stage revision it has been different. After stage 1 my foot was still swollen after 5 months. And after stage 2 it is still swollen after 10 weeks.
Don't worry about it. Exercise is good as is elevating the leg but it will go down in the end.
Mike
Hi Lynne
I am on week 3 post op and the swelling has now started to reduce dramatically now.
Good luck with your recovery
🙂
Swelling can take 8-10 weeks to go down. Last time I had my right hip done it was still swollen when I went back to work at 11.5 weeks. Not everyone has swelling I have colleagues at work who had no swellling and no bruising. I have had both. I have been walking quite a bit though since my left hip op 2 weeks ago, maybe too much because I am finding it easy. But it is important to rest too. It will go down when it is ready so dont worry it is perfectly normal you have had a lot of trauma to that leg.
Thank you all who replied on the swelling , think I,m prob doing a little too much , because I,m feeling so well with it as yet . X x x
