Foot wear...

Never gave this a thought until I had my pre OP chat.

The nurse mentioned if I had thought about adequate foot wear for when I leave the hospital. Well....no is the answer, and she never suggested anything either. I will be having both feet done, well this is what the surgeon said he'd do but the lady who phoned informed me that the admission notes said only one foot was being operated on so she

checked the consent form I signed and it does indeed say both, so I'm a little confussed and really hopeing admin

have got it wrong.

Anyhow what footwear did you wear to get from hospital

bed to car, once home its no matter as it will be bare feet or anything they may supply. Thanks in advance.

I had both feet done and the hospital should give you special sandals i am now 6 weeks post op and back in my trainers and i can also wear wide boots with thick socks

Wow, you do sound confused and that's not good!

They are your feet! You really need to talk to the hospital again! This operation is serious and shouldn't be undertaken lightly!

1) does your other foot need doing or not!

2) do you know how skilled the surgeon is?

3) do you want both feet done at the same time?

4) the type of footwear after the operation which is your lowest priority right now, should be discussed by the nurse.  Generally it seems to be a boot unless you're having plaster!

It's all your decision so be thoroughly informed!

Good luck!

I was given a pair of Actimove shoes by the hospital. (UK NHS hospital). They sell them on Amazon. (They are sold as a single shoe not in pairs). There seem to be other different styles --the important thing is that you walk on your heels. Going barefoot is not really an option  but I am sure the orthapoedic team at the hospital will advise. Good luck --I had both done too!

Thankyou...you've done well.

Hello...yes both feet need doing. The right one will have

the toes broken restraightend, bunion removed and will then be put in a plaster cast, the left isn't as bad but is

on its way to being unable to fit into wide shoes.

I had an indepth consultation with the surgeon and am happy with what he had to say and how he explained

the procedure.

I would much prefer to have the two done at once as

they are both quite painful now so don't really want to

be on pain killers long term. As I spend alot of time

walking on a day to day basis I'm noticing myself

slowing down so figure its better to get it done in one

go rather than wait until the toes on my left foot need

the same treatment as the right.

The other problem is my feet only feel comfortable in

FitFlops or open toed shoes and with a change in the

weather its not ideal.

I will get to speak to the surgeon before my OP so will

have a word just to make sure that both will be done.

Thank you lizmw

Oddly enough I have been practicing heel walking an

its not as easy as it sounds I think the problem is as

I've spent so long with knackered feet I've began to

walk on the outside of my foot if you get my drift, and

as FitFlops are really quite soft the soles of my feet

especially the heels are constantly sore.

It was a telephone conversation with someone

yesterday and when I go into hospital tomorrow I'll

make sure I have a chat with someone before I'm

discharged.

No need to worry as you will have two 'special' surgical shoes and crutches.  Not a problem.  Good luck - it will be worth it when the pain has gone and you are back in normal shoes.

PS I meant the pain from the bunion!

thank you

Thank you...My FitFlops finally gave up and broken this afternoon, and these open toe shoes are hurting across

the top of my foot. I can't wait to finally wear nice shoesI have bought some nice ones over the last few years

that seemed to fit when I tried them on only to hurt

when wearing them for a few hours, not even the shoe

stretcher and spray would make them fit, so they've

been relegated to the back of my walldrobe. Best show

them to Hubby tonight incase he thinks I've had a

spending spree on new shoes....its been that long since he's seen me in a pair.

Good luck with the Operation and let us know how you get on.

make sure you get all the information you need before you leave the hospital we'll be following your progress!
