does any one else feel like they lost some brain cells when the had the op I am forever forgetting things
definitely!!! Post op brain fog . . .not sure if it's the operation or just plain old age!
Definitely for me too lol and I keep callin folks the wrong name lol heaven help me when I go back to work the poor patients ha ha
According to my husband Im very forgetful now
Haha I really do. Glad it's not just me.
Me too! I can't put it down to old age as I'm 49, but I had started to put it down to pain meds I've been on for a long time - but it's definitelt getting worse!
I forget the ......er ...... Word ...... I'm going to say mid sentence and then have to go a roundabout way trying to explain what the word is so someone else can remember it for me,
Something else some of us may have in common.
The process just completely consumes you it's no wonder you almost forget your name sometimes. Pain is part of it but all of the things you are expected to remember is just another segment. I had to go see the surgeon today to get the stitches out. A little too much seepage and with my history of staph They sent me off for another weeks healing. I am in a rehab unit that says because I have reached a level of independence and that the Dr won't allow more weight bearing or bend (im in an immobilizer) insurance won't let me stay. I have 3 different medical teams telling me to go different directions. I finally told each of them that I'm in pain and can't think what day it is so you people figure it out and let me in on your secret. Untill then I'm going to take my pain pills and sleep when I can, that's all my brain will accept on a Friday afternoon. I should be out for cocktails with friends anyway. Try and limit the confusion and your brain will feel better
It's the synthetic opiates like OxyContin , Vicodin, Percocet, codeine, they all do that but sure happy we have them available. I'll take the trade off anytime
You might want to check with your pharmacist but Oxycontin is a true opiate as us oxycodone except it is in a time release form. The big problem that has been of issue, when. chewed oxycontin produces a fast, undesirable high for most. Kids are using them for that purpose. I recently read an article describing the way they being stolen from family members and sold at a huge $$$ figure. That is one of the reasons all the codone/morphine type drugs can only be dispensed when the script is picked up and signed for at the Dr's office and hand carried to the pharmacy. I imagine all this info is on Google. I am aware of it because my son is a microbiologist and our nephew is an infectious disease doc.
I'm no pharmacist. I was responding to a post stating they were having some memory problems. My point was it could be related to pain meds.
You mean it's not just me??? Today...for the first time my life, I forgot my zip code while getting gas. I had to go look at my registration. This was a first. I am 17 weeks post but still have to take meds to do my exercises. I never forgot my zipcode in my life!!!!! Scared.
It's not just you...put my debit card in the hole in the wall and completely forgot the pin? had the same pin for years. Then rememberedd a pin and it was the wrong card! Managed before the machine ate it. GO upstairs to do something...forget... excuse is I am 75
Anesthesia has been found to cause side effects such as temporary short-term memory loss, confusion, nausea, muscle aches and headaches. Some people may have longer-lasting problems with memory and psychological stress adds on to it. The best thing to do is to engage into physical activities and try training your memory gradually at the same time. The problem will not last forever anyway.

I have found playing scrabble with family abroad and Jigsaw World on the laptop have helped me 1 fill the time, 2 contact with family, 3 improve my memory
I'm afraid I spend too much time playing scrabble on line! lve it. . . tell me, with the anaesthetic, is this also applicable if you only had the spinal with no other sedation??? Scrabble . . on facebook, Valerie martin arvelo.
I'm forever staring into the open fridge and wondering what I was going to get out. . .
You are so right OFG . . it's enough to concentrate on yourself without having to contend with insurance companies and doctors arguing about where/what you should be! We had insurance problems with my husband's cancer treatment, and it is so stressful just when you don't need any added stress. Hope they sort themselves out soon for you!
I looked in the fridge for the TV remote yesterday!
Not to worry........unless you found it there.
