I have been on 50 mg daily for a lot of years.im on holidays for 6th day without meds I hope I'll be alright feeling anxious but apart from that OK.should I stay off now isn't out off my system
hi betty, how long is left of your holiday?
since you are not on a high dose, and also you have been taking it for years (so it has really built up in your system), you shouldnt run into any major issues; possibly some mild withdrawal effects (little bit of anxiety etc) - but even so any effects you might get shouldnt be too troublesome due to you having been on the lower 50mg dose
enjoy your holiday!
gosh hope you will be fine, let us know how you vet on, will be interesting to find out.
Since you've been on the medication for a lot of years, it had a long time to build up in your system, and it's actually still working. Although you feel anxious, you're not in full withdrawal. Continue taking your meds when you can, and if you want to get off of them talk to your doctor about tapering instead of quitting cold turkey. I quit cold turkey about 5 years ago, and it was pure hell. The first couple weeks were fine, so I thought it was out of my system, and I could go on with my life. Boy was I wrong! Zoloft has a long half-life, but the main ingredient is usually out of your system a week or so after discontinuation. However, there another ingredient in there that's kinda like the sidekick to the main ingredient. Well, that sidekick ingredient has a 66 hour half-life, so it takes longer to leave the system, and that's why people still feel pretty good for a while. For all of the ingredients in Zoloft to be completely out of your system takes about 3 months. Enjoy your vacation and don't worry, just take the med when you can so you don't have to go through the full fledged withdrawal symptoms. I wouldn't wish that on anybody.
Take care.
