Foul smelling flatulence ๐Ÿ˜”

Hi all I had my gb removed 3.5 weeks ago and am generally following a low fat diet. My problem is that I have the most foul smelling flatulence it's made my husband sleep in the spare room, it's so embarrassing when I go out as I can't control it. I'm not eating anything too spicy and am eating plenty of fruit and vegetables. Other than that I'm feeling good I haven't had diarrhea and my bm are very like they were before surgery.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thatโ€™s awful for you. Youโ€™ve been through enough without this.

Iโ€™m a great believer in fibre for those whoโ€™ve had cholecystectomy. I know youโ€™d think itโ€™d make things worse, but it soaks up some of the bile which is now dripping constantly into your intestines. Try to ensure your bowels are opened regularly. Take comfort also that itโ€™s early days for you yet and it does take a while for your body to adjust. There are over the counter meds - ask to speak in private to your pharmacist and, failing that, ask your doctor to prescribe something.

Hope it improves soon!

Hi klb,

I'm not going to say this will work for you and I've not had the same problem. But I take time release peppermint capsules in the UK the brand is Colpermin. I used to get wind related cramps and some burping issues and taking them has resolved both so they may be worth a shot.

Hope you find a solution smile

Thank you for replying to me the past 2 days have been better I've added more fibre to my diet and some ginger as well and it has eased. Im hopeful I will continue to improve ๐Ÿ˜
