having read the thread yesterday about wobbling, turning circles and getting up from seats of various kinds I have been doing a bit of an audit.
i can stand up fairly easily from dining chairs, my own loo and the loos at work, and the pews at church. I can stand balanced and fairly stationary whilst singing, a prerequisite when singing in a choir where it is imperative to see the conductor. I can turn to get out of the car and stand without using the car as support. I do then need to stretch so that starting to walk is easier.
low chairs and sofas are difficult, I use the arms when getting up from my favourite armchair.
the first few steps when staring to walk are so slow and I am so stiff but it gets better after that.
i am far more confident at home or walking around the labs at work than in the street or the shops. My chosen supermarket at the moment is the one with the widest aisles.
stairs are still problematic but I can now go up and down as normal but still need to use the bannister.
I am very touched by the support from my colleagues at work, some of whom are around 40 years younger than me. Unwieldy trays of culture plates are removed or placed in incubators for me without my asking. I can do it but with a bit of difficulty, which must have been noticed.
The he pain has all gone, I need to loose some weight and must keep up the exercises to improve my walk. Have been given the set of butt muscle clenches to do and hopefully will get the referral I have requested to hydrotherapy
All sounds very positive Maggie. I made scones today and now i have tp eat them. So easy to put on weight for me at present as a bit bored at times 6+weeks and not allowed to drive or swim yet.
I went on a Foodbank training day at a local church, with soooo low seats that were difficult to get in and out of.
as a bloke, i felt awkward not helping move seats around for small group work, as per usual, and as as blokes are supposed to it seems, but hopefully on the next one in a few months time.
this world is sooo unkind to blokes; wonder if next time round I can i be (very pretty) lady next time round?!
And not wishing a hip op again in my next life, glad for the support from this group, blokes and pretty ladies both!
What a beautiful thing to do ... things will only go better - I feel that you are a wonderful, caring person your self and now can graciously receive what you have given ...
