My 10 yr old son injured his elbow on Thursday last week. Went to a&e and was told after xray that is was broken. Temporary cast was put on and appt made for fracture clinic today.
At clinic today the doctor cut cast off and said it was fine.
My son doesn't feel pain like everyone else as takes medication during the day for other medical issues. At home now he is in agony with his elbow and hurts to touch and move etc.
Anyone any good at looking at xray?
Forgot to add that the clinic was running 2 hours behind schedule and the doctor we saw had been moaning to a collegue about wanting to get home.
Go back, never know. A break to fix that quick!if it's clear then you know for sure. Clinics never run on time, busy department.
I was expecting a new xray to be done due to swelling on Thursday. The xray on screen was so dull compared to a&e's one. I Jst want to be sure he hasn't missed it due to not concentrating. Will the a&e department see us again or maybe a diff hospital?
Go back to a and e, explain about pain ask if another X-ray can be done don't say about Dr you saw attitude. Be prepared to wait

Nhs direct doctor is disgusted a 2nd xray wasn't performed. Advised to avoid a&e as it will be the same wait for an appointment at facture clinic. Been advised to go to walk in centre at 8am tomorrow and an xray will be done and if there is a break we will get a letter for an instant referral.
Hi Maltykelz; If you have the x-rays at home, hold them upto a Bright light (like fluorescent) and if you see "a shadow around the site of break", then yes, there is a break......also if you see any abnormal lines through the elbow, which Can be taken as a break, but not always (the shadow is the definite).........with elbow breaks they usually do take the first cast off, and then put a Back brace (half cast) on and keep it in place with an elastic bandage....this can be removed for bathing etc, but then put back on during the day/night for support, and usually l still takes the same time as other breaks to heal (6 weeks or so)........if you are concerned, take x-rays and son to firstly GP, and if still not satisfied, ask for a referral to a private Orthopaedic surgeon (preferably one who specializes in arms).....I am also wondering, as you mentioned your son takes other meds, do you think he may have re-hurt his elbow, doing what would be his normal activities???/...................Bron
