Freaking out about heart

I'm dealing with something similar to many probably. I just had a good friend collapse and pass away last week from a massive heart attack at only 50.

It has scared the heck out of me. Ironically I started having chest pains the day I found he passed. Since then I have been freaking out thinking I have heart issues. My family seems annoyed with me because before that i had bad headaches and thought I had a brain tumor.

I was working out with chest muscles the on a heavy bag the day I got the pains as well. They seem to move from one side of my chest to the other.

Went to my PCP today and he thinks it's a combo of anxiety and muscle spasms from working out. He did schedule me for a stress test next week to hopefully put my mind at ease.

In the mean time I keep thinking I'm going to have a heart attack or have blockage . I did just have a stress test a year or so ago and all was fine. So he said it's unlikely this stress test will show anything.

I don't know if anxiety can keep causing this discomfort like this all over my chest. Like many, it's hard to believe anxiety would actually cause real physical symptoms like this.

I don't know what to think or do

Joe, anxiety can cause hundreds of symptoms. I had so many in my twenties at once that I thought I had MS.      All tests  were normal .

Many people get chest pains with anxiety. Your stress test will most likely be normal.

You won't have a heart attack. You just need to learn how to manage your anxiety.

do an experiment. Listen to meditations on you tube for anxiety. They totally calm me down mentally and physically and my symptoms diminish greatly. I do this a couple times a day especially when laying down to sleep. They work best with earbuds.

A good one is called "Mindfulness meditation for relaxation "

many to choose from.

and listen to meditation called "10 minute breath meditation " very important to learn.

You will be fine . See if the meditations calm you down.

We are here for you! ❤️

One more thing.....Any symptom related to anxiety cannot hurt you. They feel weird and scary but that's all they can do.  You are young with a strong heart.

Thanks for responding Jan. My mind totally jumps to worse case scenarios with things like these.

I just can't understand why I can't feel better. I started thinking it was a blood clot but my sister said something would have happened by now and not lasted 3-4 days already.

I will def try the meditation to relax . I know I'm frustrating everyone here at home.

Everyone is on here because they basically do the same thing. You are not alone.

I know that's why it's good to have support on here from others dealing with similar issues like this.

Hi Joe

Sorry to hear about your friend passing. It must have been a terrible shock. This is most probably what has caused this anxiety/panic you are experiencing and unfortunately anxiety can mimic a heart attack and have us believe there is somethinf wrong with our heart because of the physical symptoms. I have suffered for over 20 years on and off and I always think I have a heart condition or will just collapse and die suddenly. Its exhausting! See your doctor for a full medical to put your mind at ease and seek some counselling or therapy for your anxiety before it becomes too debilitating. I am at a stage where leaving the house petrifies me in case I collapse! I find meditation via Youtube and breathing exercises helps a lot as does listening to music and trying to distract myself. Good luck x

Went to ER and my heart checked out ok. They did EKG, blood work, chest X-ray and a stress test. I do feel good about that

I am still having the chest pains and now dull abdominal pain. I assume if it was anything life threatning like cancer something would have been off in my bloodwork.

I know I'm my own worst enemy. I just want to feel better.

Any input anyone has would be appreciated

I was playing Xbox and you can communicate on there with people and this guy was talking about his dad having a heart attack any that's what caused my anxiety and I have heart problems
