Freaking out

I went to my dr last week to get tested for std's since I recently had sex with a new partner. I went today for the results and she told me I have gh 1 and 2. I have yet to experience an outbreak so i really don't know how long I've had it for. She told me a lot of people never experienced an outbreak and only carry virus. She told me to just eat healthy. I have recently started to use coconut oil when I cook and take a teaspoon of it daily. I raff that it is very good for your immune system. Had anyone tried this?

Hmm.... Can you post a copy of those tests results? I wouldn't be surprised if she put you in for IgM blood tests, which can give a false positive for HSV 2, if you're positive for oral herpes HSV 1. I've seen this happen w others on this forum. Do you know what your teterr scale numbers are?

No I don't. Should I call her and ask her? I know it says that it can possibly take years for me to experience my first outbreak .

Yes, ask what the IgM AMD IgG levels were for both 1& 2.

I'm sure you like most have HSV 1 orally, so she probably put you in for IgG HSV 1 and since you stated you had a recent new partner, put you in for HSV 2 IgM.. If you come back positive from HSV 1, then it can give a false positive for a IgM HSV 2 test.

It is too soon fke you to be tested after sexual contact anyway, if you've had no sores. You need to wait 3-3 months to have antibodies. I'm willing to bet those results were wrong, although I could be wrong as well.... Something isn't right... You just don't get antibodies that quickly after infection, UNLESS, you have a high antibody count of HSV 2 IgG, then it could be that you're an asymptomatic carrier. Over 80% of people are.

Was she a gyno or GP? are you male or female?

I will call and ask tomorrow. She is a nurse practioner. I am a female

Oh god .. Even worse. See a gyno....

What if she had it and didnt knw it tho you cnt jst totally rule that out..

Well, I didn't rule that out.. I states that is always a possibility, but I've been doing this long enough, to see false positives come up, because doctor's not understanding the test differences and it causing a false positive. That's why she needs to see a gyno and I'm asking fie the tests results, cause I can tell by looking at them.

I got the results. All it says is that my IgG was positive for hsv1 and 2. There's nothing stating IgM at all. The are no levels or anything.

Oh boy... Wow... OK, well does it at least say the number under each test, like 2.75-5.0 type if reading?

Since she put you in for IgG only, then that would rule put the false positive and you do have HSV 2. So you've never had itching here and there, tingling, little bumps come ans go? Over 80% of people are asymptomatic, so it doesn't surprise me.

Listen, I know it's a hard pill to swallow, as it was for me too. Be blessed you have no symptoms. You've no idea the h*ll I've had from this virus and others on here as well. Excruciating nerve pain...

Your immune system handles it well, hence you having no symptoms, so just keep doing what you're doing.

It can be hard to accept it, but. Time will come when you do. Just make sure you disclose to partners and fovw them a choice. You are contagious, even during periods of no ob, so remember that. Condoms also only provide so much protection.

Google H opportunity. It has great disclosure pamphlets you can download and print out and this great pie chart w the risks of transmission rates.

I've never had an outbreak and have never had anything down there. I have had some itching here and there but I always have so i might have had this for a very long time and had no idea. I'm concerned about the partners i've had that I haven't used protection with since they were long term. If I am asymptomatic does that mean that I may never have an outbreak?

I do try and keep healthy most of the time. I drink a lot of water and take vitamin c regularly. I just started taking tsp of coconut oil daily since I read it helps with your immune system a lot.

I am very upset over this but am slowly coming to terms that I need to accept it and live with it. I just hope and pray that when and if I do get an outbreak it won't be so bad. Is it recommended to take Valtrex even if I haven't had an outbreak? Please advise. .

Take note from here on out, from any sensations you may get done there and note the location. Such as itching, is it in a particular spot time and time again. May give you a better idea as to weather yiu are active or shedding, for future partners.

If they never broke out, I wouldn't worry about it too much, but it is best just to warn them and tell them to get tested. You probably got it from one of them who is asymptomatic as well.

Protection does provide some protection, but only so much. They estimate condoms provide about a 30-50% protection from herpes.

There is no definitive answer I can give you on that. There is a chance you never will and there is a chance you will. I doubt it'll be a horrific primary ob like it is for those of us that break out as soon as we are infected. There are stories of women breaking out in their 70s and had no clue this entire time and must have got it from their deceased husband. Don't stress over it too much.

It's under stable to feel the way you do and it most certainly is a grieving process to go through. You will move past it Mich faster than people like us, who do experience obs from time to time or have other symptoms. I lanost always have a dull ache at the bade of my tailbone and butt bones.. Like I have riders soreness.

It is up to you to take valtrex. If your concern is to lower the risk of transmission w a partner, then by all means take that. Below are the rates of transmission, female to male, sex 2-3xs a week and abstaining during any signs or symptoms.

- no condoms or meds: 4%

- condoms or meds: 2%

- condoms and meds: 1%

Female condoms offer more protection as well and feel better for both partners. Feel free to pm me any time to talk. Keep your head up. :-)

You have no idea how much I appreciate all your help and great advice. I will definitely call my dr and ask for a Valtrex prescription. I am also going to get female condoms since using both offers better protection of transmitting it to someone else.

What is shedding?

Oh not a problem, it is the least I can do. ..so as far as the condom, the non latex one is the best. It is stronger than latex, don't have to worry about latex sensitivities, it is actually thinner than latex, it comes w a lubricant (keep some more lubricant on hand, as they may make more noise if not enough) and the condom actually heats up w thrusting and both parties can feel it. It also has a ring on the outside and is placed by your clitoris, which results in extra stimulation for the female from the rubbing. You also can wear the female condom up to 8hrs before intercourse, so as not to deal w the hesitation to get ready before penetration. Go on YouTube and look up female condom, to watch some demos. Order some and practice to get comfortable w it, before it comes time to really use it.

Shedding means that the virus comes to the surface of the skin, while not presenting typical signs or symptoms, but still sheds enough virons to be contagious. This is harder for you to understand, because you don't have breakouts. So for me who has obs, I actually have symptom's because of how sensitive I am to the virus, of when I'm shedding. I won't present w a physical sore or bump, but I may have itching, sensitivity and a crawling sensation and it is all in the same spots. I've had this virus for close to a year and it took me journaling every day my symptoms and the locations, along w triggers, to understand when I was shedding.

Paying attention to when you itch, may give yiu some idea, since you do not present symptoms in "text book" ways.

I've had pain on my legs for years. It kind of feels like a burning sensation on one spot. Could this be a symptom of hsv2? I get headaches here and there but i always have.

I am going to get those female condoms so i can get familiar with them. Can the man feel that female condom?

Yep, that is herpes.... I get the same thing. I actually had severe neuropathy during my primary ob and felt like a burn victim on my buttock and back oglf thighs. I still get strange nerve sensations.I don't get headaches from it, but I know others do and they usually get it when they feel the nerve pain in their legs.

The female condom actually feels better for the man too.

Oh wow. .. I've felt that burning sensation for about 6 years. I was already in a long term relationship i think i need to tell him he needs to get checked. This is scary cuz i have no idea when i got it. I called my dr and she i prescribing a week worth of valtrex for now. She told me we should wait for an outbreak.

Well if you plan on sleeping w someone, you need to tell her you want daily therapy, to lower your transmission risks.

I will tell her about it. Now I'm just worried about finding a partner who will accept the fact that I have hsv2. Herpes is seen as a stigma. Anyone who has it is dirty. Just ignorant people who don't know what they're talking about. How do I even bring it up? I live in a community full of macho mexican men and the other races have been influenced by these macho mexican men. Lol. . I might be exxagerating a little but seriously how do I bring it up?
