Fresh start!

Well I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment with the nurse for some new bluies. I knew had put on after my wedding and honeymoon but only 6lbs since 2nd June, and considering I've done some considerable cheating !!! I wasnt too unhappy with that.Soon shift it, I HOPE. Determined to get to my target weight of 11 stone. (Started at 15st 2lb) So I have just over a stone to go. Bring it on thats what I say.Might have to stop taking orlistat soon as nurse says can only take for a year.Sniff Sniff.Oh well. They will review it in October she said.So better get my skates on and shift some more eh ????? :D

Go for it girl.....u can do it... :D

is everyone only allowed to be on it for a year?

I've been told I can only have them for a year, and with soooooooo much to go, it had better go quick!!!

oh no  i dont think i will be able to lose all i want to in a year sad i will ask when i go get my 2nd patch

me neither

Maybe its just a guide and the docs can use their discretion. I know lots of people on here have said they had to lose weight to start them, my doc said it was only advisory now as they've been available for so long

Hi

I'd read that they had case studies that people could use the pills for up to 4 years but they hadnt carried out any further cases studies on people using them longer than that - it may well be the Doc is just being cautious

It seems as well that orlistat was launched in 1998 so will be coming off patent sometime this year, so it will become more widely available if generic companies start producing it, it will cost the NHS less too!

They probably say a year as you may not absorb all the fat soluble vitamins that you need to with these tablets and say that after a year you need to let your body get those back!

Maybe once they have completed a review of the drug over the 10 years it has been on the market, they may change the guidelines which the drug companies and the MHRA set for a medicine

I take multi vits, gingko, eve primrose oil, omega 3 and cranberry tabs to help supplement my diet.

TTFN Kal

I thought it was 2 years..but im not sure :?

Hopefully though after a year you will have better control of your diet and maybe find it a little easier to lose weight on your own.

This is prob a silly question but....

You can buy Alli- the 60mg tabs from the chemist.See if you were be taken off the Orlistat could you buy the Alli and take 2,and get the same results?

random

Not sure, but I don`t think so. Any over the counter medicine is likely to be less in strength and Id hazard a guess at saying the ingredients would be somewhat different....hence we have to get them on script.

(plus, the potential for affecting your liver. Alli 60mgs must be different to a degree. I THINK... smile )

There is a reason why these are prescribed, they have to be controlled

I would say the over the counter ones would probably of a lesser quality and at a higher risk of causingreactions and not be as effective!
