from venlafaxine to escitalopram(lexapro).

Although I am sick of messing around with ad's, my dr suggested i switch from venlafaxine to escitalopram(lexapro) to combat my severe mental numbness, anhedonia and depression.  Although I doubt this will go over good I'm wondering if anyone has had any good experiences doing something like this.  At this point i don't believe it'll work.

go back to your doctors and tell them its not working

Hi Jim, can I ask if you think any of these symptoms came on since starting the Venlafaxine or if they pre-date it? I mean the numbness and anhedonia really. I'm asking because in the main Venlafaxine has been brilliant for me (cleared my confusion, allowed me to see bright colours, made me feel 3 dimensional instead of invisible etc), and I've been on it about 10 yrs now, but lately I have wondered whether it's keeping me in emotional neutral. It's so hard to tell whether it's the illness, the drug or me.

Also how long have you been on Venlafaxine? It took me a long time to get used to it (nearly a year). Just asking because you said you're sick of messing around with your ADs. GPs have so much choice now they seem to change people's meds a LOT without understanding how long it takes for them to work. The guidelines on the packets are so unrealistic! Depression is a bit like a cruise liner - it's got so much momentum it takes a long time to turn it.

I cannot wait til scientists find a way to treat the cause not the symptoms, and develop blood tests to show us which pills we need so we no longer have to go through this lengthy experiment and carry so much of the responsibility for our own mental health. Sorry, early morning rant.
