I didn’t realise a frozen shoulder could be so painful until I was diagnosed with one 6 months ago. Having taken naproxen for a couple of months I am now free of painkillers as I move into the ‘frozen’ stage. I decided not to go for the steroid injection as I have heard they don’t always work and can be very painful to administer. Worth pointing out that the menopause isn’t always the cause, I am 54 and had an early menopause at 39. I also had my Covid injections in my other arm so that wasn’t the cause. I do know that repetitive strain was a pre cursor. I think one of the worst things is not being able to sleep on that side. I really don’t know what I would do without my ergonomist side sleeper pillow plus one smaller pillow under my good arm. I also used an ice pack a lot which was a god send. I don’t think anyone could sustain that initial pain for 18 months, the ‘zingers’ were truly awful but that pain does start to dissipate with time and some simple exercises. I just wish someone had told me that as I know the hopelessness a frozen shoulder can cause. It had me in tears a good few times! Simple tasks became a real problem which took my independence and made me feel like a burden. The horrendous pain doesn’t last forever though so please don’t lose hope my fellow sufferers.
