Hello again, apologies in advance for my negativity today. Can't believe just over 2 weeks ago I was working full time, working out 5-6 days a week, albeit with discomfort, and now am having to think carefully about every move I make. So worried about the dislocation thing. Thank goodness I have you all to turn to for guidance, and reassurance. I know from reading and responding to your posts that Im not the only one who has days like this, but still, they do come over you all of a sudden, without warning. Warmest wishes to you all. x
Don'the worry Julia, I am sure it is perfectly normal to feel the way you do. I also worry about dislocation. That is why one should be so careful. For me....well I could not even prepare mentally as I broke my hip in a fall, it all happened in a second. One minute I was in the garden and tripped and took a hard fall and coukd not move, next there I am being loaded into an ambulance.
I am doing ok. It will be 6 weeks tmrw. I do not have any pain but still tender. Can't wait to drive again but physiotherapist will not let me and I am not prepared to take a chance. I could not bear the thought if ending up in hospital again!!!
Just say to yourself "it is out of my control right now so I must just go with the flow".
xxx
Hello Patricia, thank you for your understanding. What bad luck, so sorry you had to go through all that pain and discomfort. I think the loss of control is probably what is causing my mood swings. Go with the flow, will have to be my mantra for quite some time I think. I just need a kick up the bum sometimes. I have no idea what I would have been like under your circumstances, fine one minute, then boom. Thanks again for your kind words. Hope you will be up and driving very soon. Onwards and upwards. warmest of wishes. Julia. xx
Julia,
when I feel like that, I also blame the planets. ..Jupiter and Saturn and Venus and mercury, they seem to be in disagreement ...
so,like patricia says:it is out of my control, can't do anything about this and this too will pass. ..
😇it's going to be all good. ....
Well,we all need patience at that time of healing, but it is sooo frustrating, but I promise it works out in the end and worth every single moment. I'm 15weeks,but had loads of tears, loads of frustration at not being able to do things. Just got to get it into your head your doing this so you can heal and get those muscles strong enough to hold things in place, the bones and muslce need to repair.
I still get good and bad days - and I'm 5 months post revision now.
It still amazes me that no medical professional ever warns us about this aspect of THR.
Graham
hello Renee, This too will pass, thank you for reminding me of one of my favorite sayings. I've used that one so many times on family and friends who are going through a rough time, and guess what, it does pass. I don't know much about the planetary influences though, but I hope they sort out their differences pretty sharpish. Thanks again Renee, hope I can help you sometime, the way you've helped me. Warmest wishes. Julia.xxx
Hello Lynn, It comes over you all of a sudden, your going along thinking i'm going to be fine, then out of nowhere, something just triggers the fears and as you say, the frustrations. I'm sure I've got many more frustrating and emotional days to come, but hopefully they will become less and less as time goes on.Thank you again Lynne for being so patient. warmest wishes. Julia xxx
Hello Graham, that is so reasuring, I don't feel so bad now. It's so true what you say about the medical profession. Thanks again Graham, heres to plenty more good days. take care. Julia.xxxx
Hi Again Julia,
what lovely messages to help you through the frustrations.
Something my physio told me, before my surgery, was to find and clench butt muscles all the time......I stil do more clenches than they recommend post op. As physio said they hold your joint tighter. This has made me less worried about dislocation when moving around.
Hope this may help you and other get back more confidence. We Can be more in control of this than we think. 😐
Safe healing,
Jillx
Hi Julia , so sorry you are feeling like that today , other days will be better I promise , and you will get bak to normal . Im now 13 weeks , back at work at six weeks , swimming four tomive times a week. Its just that in the early stages it feels like it will never happen. iVe had three hip surgeries now and its been the same each time . Dislocation , which was one of my big worries is extremely rare , and quite hard to do . The negative felings and loss of control over your body are hard to bear but will improve . Big hug and a better day today/ tomorrow xxxxx
Hello Bini, Thank you for your kind words. I told work that I would be off for about 8 weeks after surgery, but I feel that it may be a little longer. My job is very physically demanding, lifting, bending, running up and down stairs, I must do about 6 miles a day somedays, then there's the admin on top of that. It's worrying me to think I may not actually be able to do all the things I was doing before the op, which would mean losing my job. I'm getting very anxious about that I must admit. Well done to you for your achievements, considering everything you have been through, you have come out the other end with gusto. That dreaded fear of dislocation is with me constantly, I had a fall the first day out of hospital, fainted and landed full force on my gammy leg, still worried about whether that has any long term implications, only time will tell I suppose. Well, I'm being a bit long winded, so thank you again for such a positive response. warmest of wishes Julia.xxx
Good luck Julia, today I did something I haven't done before, I got myself sat down in the grass and managed to get back up. I was so panicking about how to do it.
I also fell, but while I was in hospital, I'm fine, so hope you will be too.
I went back to work the 18th May, I work in a supermarket, heavy lifting, up and down steps etc and I have managed, but you will find it extrememly tiring to start with, I went back to work at 13weeks, but I think it's usually 12 weeks, you may need 12weeks. Phased return, 5 hours instead of 6/7 hours, this week is my first full on week.
I also worried about my job.
take care xx
Hello Lynn, That is a massive achievement chick. I was actually wondering if something like that would be possible ever again, that's such a relief. Well done you. I managed to have a shower today, and wash my hair, it took ages to build up the courage, I walked in and out of the shower about 5 times before I worked out how it could be done without keeling over. Here's to many more good days chick. take care.
Lynn,
I did something similar yesterday too - in the lovely sunshine whichhas been a long time coming this year.
I did a roll onto my front, knelt up, then used a chair that was close by to help get back up.
Trouble is I stayed out there too long.
I am now a nice shade of lobster-red and have had to liberally baste myself in after-sun.
Staying out of the lovely sunshine as much as possible today.
Graham
oh julia ....I had a nurse come to the house every morning for a couple of weeks - after the staples were removed (14 days post-op) I was allowed to take a shower - I was so looking forward to that , but when the nurse came I lost all confidence and refused to get in the shower ... scared beyond who-knows-what .... next day another nurse came, she undressed me, turned on the shower, gently pushed me inside and went in with me to hold me .... she scrubbed my body like a pofessional spa person ... soaking wet she was - so sweet ...
now and again I see her in the senior home where I volunteer and have to give her a hug !!!
no such problems post-op 2nd THR
Oh renee, what a sweet lady. I was shaking all over when I finished my shower and got dressed, who would have thought that a normal everyday routine task, would fill us with so much dread. When I came out of the shower I broke my grabby thingy, it was the last straw, had a bit of a panic attack, was crying like a baby. Alls well that ends well, my husband went and bought me another one from keep able, you would have thought he'd bought me a gold necklace, I was so happy. Hugs renee. Xxx
Hello Chick, I took your advice on the butt crunching a few days post op, and I believe that's what made me strong enough to use just the one crutch so early on. That was a great piece of advice, it's become a habit when sitting, although it does look like I've got ants in my pants. Hugs chick. Xx
Hello Lynn, Good luck with the full hours, hope it goes well. I work for Royal Mail, in the callers office. I did 12 years as a post person, delivering the mail, until my hips and back got too bad to manage. Indoors work can be just as demanding at times. I think 12-13 weeks sounds more realistic, in terms of going back to work, especially in jobs like ours. I would imagine a desk job could be just as hard to get back into, sitting in one position all day, very uncomfortable. Well chick onwards and upwards. Warmest wishes. Xxxxx
