After feeling much better for a few days, I have yet again gotten bad diarrhea and an upset stomach. Stool is bright yellow with signs of mucus. What the heck. Can anyone tell me if you normally feel like crap when having a flare? I have a Dr appt Tues so I am hoping fir some answers.
To rule out any conditions that may be producing your yellow stool, which is probably bile, ask doc for bloodwork. Could be your gall bladder, liver, or a variety of other conditions, including another IBS flare. also, could be what you are eating and/or stress. But since you mentioned your stomach, it may be a problem with digestion because of a nasty bacteria in your stomach. I saw some yellow (pale) stool after I had my gall bladder removed but only once. And yes, I do feel like crap (no pun indented) during a flare. Completely drains my energy. I hope you get the answer on Tuesday. Keep us informed. Best of luck.
When having an attack I sometimes think is this how it will end and sounds melodramatic but friends who have seen me say the same. I have severe cramps like something out of alien. They double me over. I start to perspire and get very shaky and I can hardly hold a glass of water. Once the attack is over the shock often makes me sick and then I have to go and lie down and sleep for 3 to 4 hours in a darkened room and I might start to feel normal again at about 8pm and that is for a morning attack. With an evening attack I just hope I can wake in time for work and not a given as I am a ridiculously heavy sleeper so much so if the attack is over the weekend sleeping for 15 hours is normal for me.
If you are having a flare up you will feel unwell. How unwell you feel will depend on how bad your flare up has been. With mild or moderate flare ups I can function as normal. Sometimes the pain goes away on its own or I take Buscopan or Nurofen if the pain is persistent and I think a bad flare is coming. If I have a bad attack, the pain is agony, I will feel very nauseous to the point of vomiting and I don't know where to put myself. Sometimes, I curl up in a ball on the couch while I wait for the pain medication to work or I lie crouched on the bathroom floor. Small sips of milk help with the nausea. I had a flare up,of just nausea caused by constipation the other week that took two hours of sipping milk and alternating with lying on the couch or in the bathroom until it settled in the early hours of the morning. I rarely get attacks like this.
