I just can’t stop worrying and it’s really messing with me. My doc diagnosed me with gastritis a few weeks ago but not by an endoscopy, she just did a liver exam and pressed around my right side. Anyways, long story short, I’ve had a CBC, a hep panel, a liver and kidney function test, a d dimer, a urinalysis, a lipase test (I asked for that one), an xray of my upper back and chest and an abdominal ultrasound. All have come out normal. But I just can’t stop thinking they’ve missed something. I had a BM yesterday and it looked like a yellow brown and now I’m hyping my anxiety up because I keep googling stuff. I’ve had on and off abdominal discomfort but not debilitating or stabbing, just cramping. I don’t understand what could be wrong if all my tests came out fine. Maybe I need to see a gastroenterologist (sp). I’m just so frustrated and scared, it’s so consuming. I go back to my doc the 17th but now I’m debating on going in earlier. My husband works nights so I’m up by myself with our kids and then here alone at night. I just have no idea what do.
I also have been diagnosed with gastritis, and everything you listed is unfortunately part of it. Did your doctor give you a treatment plan?
Hi Kim, thank you for your reply! My doc only said to avoid fried food, citrus and spicy food. My appetite hasn’t been the way it usually has been so I’ve lost some weight. I’m kind of scared to eat.
I had an endoscopy done, and the doctor found multiple moderate sized lesions. He tried to put me on a ppi to help heal everything, but I don't care for them.
When people have the flu or any GI infections or issues, docs usually recommend the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) diet in order to keep things easy on the stomach. You could give that a try, along with other bland food, such as chicken. It doesn't have to be without flavor, just not greasy or spicy. Chicken and rice is easy on the stomach, and so are many soups. Soup and crackers are pretty convenient, and easy to eat a little at a time.
I know it's hard, but try not to keep the stomach completely empty, because then stomach acid gets to roam free and irritate the lining of the stomach even more.
I didn't keep up with the right foods, so I still have issues. The stomach either feels crampy, bloated, gassy, or just off. Bowels don't act right, so BM's seem off, and constipation creeps in a lot, which adds even more problems.
One thing that feels good on the stomach is a heating pad. It seems to relax everything, but that could just be in my head. lol
A search for Gastritis Diet will give you a list of foods that are best for you. It will basically be the same as a Gerd diet, but it's worth a look.
I hope you feel better soon! 💜
Thank you Kim!! Personal question, do you get diarrhea with your gastritis? I took a zantac just a little while ago and started getting stomach cramps then diarrhea came and now my stomach feels somewhat better. That hasn’t happened before. This is so frustrating because it makes me think something else is wrong when I’ve had lots of tests that show everything is fine.
Hi Dev,
Nope, no diarrhea for me, but wouldn't mind if that were to happen. lol I tend to be plugged up more than anything, but I'm sure it's because I enjoy cheese too much. When I can get the system all cleared out, the stomach feels so much better. So, the zantac and and bit of diarrhea probably made your stomach say "Ahhh, that's nice".
It's easier said than done, but try to lower any stress you have, because that certainly makes things worse. Even if you don't feel it right away, stress kicks up the stomach acid and eventually you'll feel it.
