Hi all so iv just been given gabapentin from my doctor. Does anyone else take this and how do you et on with it? X

Hi Nicola

I was on Gabapentin for 9 months, they did me no good an also i put on nearly 2 stone in weight,i was weaned off them ,at the moment am waiting appointment for Pain clinic, gentle hugs an i hope they work for you .

Thanks. I have taken first 1 this morning now all I want to do is sleep. I take iron tabs to prevent this. My doctor told me to take 1 today, 2 tomorrow and then 3 the day after and maintain it. But I react badly to med and already feeling sleepy after the 1st one don't think I will be taking 2 tomorrow I still have a 2 year old to look after while others are at school. But we shall see how I get on. Xx gentle hugs xx

Hi

I was on 6 a  day ,we all react differently to medication so hopefully they will work for you,i cannot remember being sleepy on them though ,give them a few months thats all you can do good luck x

Hi Nicola. I take gabapentin. I took 1 and was really dizzy, haven't been to work since.

I was given 300mg tablets, told the rheumatologist that I didn't react well to tablets, told me to just take them and get on with it.

Went to my own GP the day I woke up dizzy and he changed the tablets to 100mg and we increased it once a month from 1 tablet a day to 2 a day and so on until I was taking 300 mg as described.

I now take 600mg three times a day, depending on the day it works and other days it doesn't touch the pain.

Hope you get on okay with the gabapentin. But go back to the doctors if you have problems.

Take care and gentle hugs

Hi janet I took the 1 today. Like you I react badly I felt very sleepy slept for 2 hours and woke up with fever feeling really ill. I also gave to wean myself onto them. I will just take 1 again tomorrow and keep going til my body accepts then then gradually up the dose x

Hi Nicola; yes I, too, take Gabapentin, and yes it does make you sleepy......so perhaps if you take the 1 at night/when bub takes a nap?   I do feel that it will help you, as it is a Nerve-blocker.......and as it is with most meds, our body needs time to adjust to them......I originallly started by taking low dose, when required, for as you may find, with just starting, it will work "harder" for you, and you may get away with only taking the 1, and it may last for a couple of days???......the other medication that you could trial is Amitriptylline (say 10mgs/less), at night....this, too, is a very good medication for Fibro, and works in similar fashion:   but don't give up too early, as you really need something to help you with your pain, (otherwis, if like me....the Continual pain can drive you mad????).............Bron

I've just been prescribed this today after tramadol did nothing at all so fingers crossed it works

Hi Sadie I took my first 1 yesterday and have just been told by my doctor not to take anymore at all. It made me feel dizzy and knocked me out for 2 hours woke up with fever and hot sweat. Went to bed feeling fine last night only to be told by my husband that I had a seizure in my sleep I had no idea x

Thanks born. But after taking one yesterday and reacting badly to then be told by my husband that I had a seizure in my sleep I don't think I will be taking anymore. Doc has also advised me to stop taking them x

Oh god don't say that I'm scared as it is !

Hugs

Hi ive been on this for over a year now and have tried all different doses at the moment 400mg three time s a day is good for me and yes it does make you feel sleepy but you do get used to it...... i tried to come off of it gradually and went for two weeks without it and was in so much pain went back on tham,,, hope that helps a bit good luck xx

Morning Nicola;  I am really sorry that happened, and it must be a terrible thing to feel that this has happened........am also sorry that, once again, you have not been able to find something to help you.   Of course you can't take something that caused such a "bad Reaction".....this too, has happened to me when having been prescribed two medications that contained  "an anti-depressant", so if there are any drugs that counteract each other, then, Yes, you do need to stop one..............what other meds do you take, or this your only med that you are/were taking?......I had really hoped that you may have found something to help..........let us know what else you may be given to trial, and if at all concerned re the combinations, I find by asking my Pharmacist what is compatible and what is not...............please take care of yourself.............Bron

Hi bron I don't take any other med. And my gp has told me to see how I go without meds and to go back if I can't cope x

depending on what dose you are on they caused hair loss with me.  I then went through all different ones till Duloxetine 60mg they work really well for me.

HI Kipper; you have just confirmed what many of us have been saying for a long time.....that everyone is different, and different drugs for different people.....for as when I trialled Duloxitine (Cymbalta)...it did nothing for my pain, and made me "just cry all day for No reason"....I took 1 for 3 days, couldn't stop crying, went off for a week and then re-trialled and same effect..........so definately not for me, but for others, yes:   and I know it is one of The recommended drugs for Fibro......Bron
