Gad & Health anxiety

Hi all,

I hope everyone is keeping safe through this crazy time!

I’ve suffered with Anxiety for quite some time but you never really get used to the symptoms do you?
Since we’ve been locked down my Anxiety began to get worse, I have no completed counselling and have started a job booking in peoples Covid vaccines so that’s kind of helped to take my mind off my anxiety symptoms.

I have a couple of questions though mainly for reassurance as I am struggling slightly and because I like to hear from other people in the same situation.

  1. Do you ever feel truly well?
I feel like there is always something wrong with me whether its diagnosed or not!
Relating to anxiety i often feel off with no real sense of why and my symptoms usually include:
  • Feeling like I’m getting a cold
  • Feeling tired most the time
  • Sinus issues
  • feeling foggy headed
  • Feeling like I’m constantly running down and weak
My partner made a good point and said I may feel like I’m unwell all the time bit can anyone truly remember the last time they felt well!
  1. Do you get weird sensation whilst dropping off to sleep?
    For me i get:
  • A whooshing feeling come over my whole body that makes me feel pressure in my head.
  • The feeling of my heart stopping just as I’m about to fully drop off.
  • Gasping for air like I’ve forgotten to breathe.

Thank you to those of you that take the time to read this and to reply!

Aimee

Hi Aimee,

I’m struggling with health anxiety at the moment, particularly related to my heart. it’s all very frustrating. I’ve had an ecg which has come back fine, but that animal part of my brain just takes over.

I’ve also had dizziness every day for 3 months since a bad panic attack in January. I’m now certain that’s something called PPPD and I’m currently looking at going private to get the diagnosis.

Then I’ve got a bad back from lockdown and working at home. My back pain is fuelling my anxiety no end, and all the sensations in my back make me think its my chest. I’m in the wars!

I do also get the cold issues you speak of. some nights I get a blocked nose for no reason, this morning I woke up with a sore throat. none of them last a long time.

With regards to your issues when trying to get to sleep, I’ve had that over two different periods the last few months. I think there’s quite a big thread about it on here. I purchased some magnesium melatonin which I take before bed, and I’ve had 4 good nights sleep in a row since I started it. I highly recommend it. its a horrible sensation and I think the longer it goes on the more you anticipate it and bring it on yourself when drifting off.

yes to all your questions .I feel them all plus some . My partner says I never feel good too

Thom - I actually had to check that it wasnt me who had written this!

Aimee, I totally understand what you mean, my anxiety keeps manifesting itself in new and frustrating (to put it lightly) ways. I’ve got back and chest pains as well as muscle tension which comes and goes as it pleases. I also totally get the never feeling fully healthy thing - I regularly feel like I’m on the brink of flu (mostly muscle tensions) minus the sneezing etc. Obviously the pandemic has made all of this worse. Thank you for posting as i definitely feel less alone now x
