Gain around the waist 6 mos post-thr

Morning hippies!

hope you're all well, and the the newbies are very good spirits too.πŸ™‹

I need some advice, I had my first THR in Feb 2015, and I was back in the size 12s trousers within 3 months.

However, I had the other THR on 31/8/2016 - 18 months later. Now, six months post op, I still cannot get my waist back down from 34 inches back to 29inches. I'm 9st 6lbs and 5'4" and just 65 (still partying!&#127870.

i had to have size 14 trousers/dresses from 6 weeks st-op, and still can't get into my size 12s.

i know this is a very facile, banal issue compared to some of the posts, but it's really bugging me - and costing me a fortune. I am getting quite fed up and tearful.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing? My husband feels it's just my body sorting itself out after 2 major ops in 18 months.

Any advice would be brilliant, thanks.

Best.

hi jan,

I think your husband  is right ... good for you  that your waist went back to size 8 after your 1st THR -- my waist expanded and has not gone back 1 cm ...

I also had 2 THR surgeries, 6 months apart ..

Just give it a bit more time - you had 2 major invasive surgeries and your body is still healing  -

Try to accept what is at the moment - Be kind to your body - she is working so hard -

I am sure that you are doing all the right things - enjoy and embrace life ...

happy 65th birthday !!!! are you retired now?

please let us know how you are getting on otherwise ...

big warm hug

I too think your husband is right. I've always been slim but my waist enlarged a bit after major surgery. I'm hoping that when I get back to exercising more it will shrink again. Six months is not long - patience!

Aw thanks Renee. Of course you're right, so I'll just have to be patient!

Hi Michael

As I said to Renee, of course you're right, so I'll just have to be patient!

Hi Jan

I am exactly the same height, weight and dress size (and 66) as you. I put on weight towards the date of my right THR on 13/3 basically because I ate the same things but also the same portions without doing any exercise.  I wasn't worried because I thought my body would need that bit of fat to get through this, and it has started to fall off quite quickly.

I hope I am not going to need the other hip done - orthopod said it looks fine so far (fingers XX) - but I suppose it is as the others say: the extra stress, which is enormous in this highly invasive surgery, of another THR would have unbalanced your lymphatic system yet again.

By the way I don't think it's banal to worry about weight! It's responsible - and gosh, how we look as women is important to us.

Good luck with it

Rose

Hi Jan,

I think just hang on in there..... As you recover your strength you'll probably be able to exercise more, and also in the summer I think it's easier to eat less. Good luck!

Hi Jan,

It sounds as though you've done well keeping your weight off.  I've found that as soon as I hit the post menapausal stage, it's been like an up hill battle to lose weight.  (but that subject is for a different forum).

It's very unlikely that your new hip has anything to do with weight loss after 6 months, unless you're not as mobile.

Keep trying, eat healthy small portions and exercise.  With perserverance the weight will come off

Thank you. Great advice!

Best.
