Gaining weight with my recent gastric band

So it's been 2 months and I'm up to 3.4mls and still like before I had the op. I can eat anything with no restriction and hence my weight has recently gone up a few pounds. I'd lost 6lbs in my first week but nothing since then and now I'm gaining weight.

I'm so disappointed. My hubby and I are getting another fill this week and are hoping for the best as we're in the same boat. My husband ate two massive bowls of pasta at dinner and wasn't even full after that. I'm just feeling like maybe this won't work for us and so I'm feeling so down. Everyone else is losing at this point it seems, except us.

I woke up from surgery with 4mls already in which i was pleased about. im now due my first fill on thurs so hopeful il have more restriction after this

Hi I am on my 5th fill and it is now working. Thank god it did. I fell the same as you but now I am regurgitating a lot. But it did take up till now. For it to work. Just keep going you will get there x

to be honest I think its still very very early days for you - i cant remember what i had in my band at 2 mths post op but poss the same as you and i had no restriction either - i did lose slowly and gradually throughout the whole process but it took me 5 or 6 fills over the first yr to get that ultimate level of restriction or the 'sweet spot' as you may have heard it referred to as - you need to concentrate on following a healthy eating programme or now and keep having a small fill every couple of mnths and you will get there - towards the end even the smallest fill can make the biggest difference - it will work for you but 3.4 mls is really a small amount in a band that poss takes 3 times that amount - as your restriction increases you will find that some foods are a no no for you - such as bread, rice, pasta, dry firbrousy meats such as chops or steak - they will kinda stick and just not go anywhere - when this starts to happen you will know you are getting there - you will lose but it takes time and patience (the latter being something i didnt have) and whilst you are building up yr restriction you need to watch what you are eating just like you did if you were doing wgt watchers or slim world or whatever wgt reduction programmes you followed in the past - drink plenty of water - good luck

Hang on in there, it does take time and you'll thank them for doing it gradually in the long run, less excess skin is one plus!

I only have 0.5ml at each fill so took me a good 6-8 months to really notice restriction!

It will be worth it in the end x

I had mine done at Taunton at the end of May, I'm under an NHS research programme which means after care very good and got a research nurse at end of phone line. Lost 22lbs in pre-op and first month and maintained for last 3 mths. (Still got 6stone to loose in my head or 3 stone for Drs) Had 4 fills, 1 a month (4ml,2ml,1ml,1ml) So had 8ml in so far and up until this last fill on Mon I've had literally no feedback from the band. Since Mon I have felt less interested in eating larger portions and am not seeking food inbetween meals! Maybe I am finally nearing the green zone i have been told about. I am trying really hard with my technique 20-20-20 (food size 20p, chew 20x, eat no more than 20mins). Am hoping for a weight loss this month.

Sorry yours is frustrating, everybody puts in different amounts in the band at a time and many people have found the right level at 5ml, rather than 8ml or more....I was warned this is the slow phase and that it is normal for between 6mth-12mths to get to the right level and for you to be loosing effectively. Stay with it and we just have to be patient for that bit longer. I have been strongly advised to eat 1/2 plate of protein, 1/4 veg next then only eat the 1/4 carb if necessary. Hope this helps. x
