Hi I am new to this forum and have been looking everywhere for advice.
About 3 years ago I thought I was having a heart attack and it was found that I had a gallstone issue and was put on a waiting list for surgery.
The date had come up but I had other surgery done on my stomach and couldn't have the surgery done.
I have recently moved to Northern Ireland and as yet couldn't get a GP as I had no proof of address but have changed my bank and got proof from them which means I can now have a GP.
Since finding out about my gallstone I put myself on a diet avoiding foods that made it worse.
It's now day 4 and during the whole time I have never had a gallbladder attack that has lasted this long.
At night is much worse but I have never had it through the day which is now happening. I feel like my right side is swollen and my partner drove me to a &e early hours saturday and they prescribed me with cocodomol and done my bloods and said was no sign of an infection and I just need get a GP to refer me for surgery.
I am at the point where I don't know what to do with myself and I am petrified of eating.
I would really really appreciate hearing any experiences on this forum cause I honestly don't know what to do.
I too had this problem before my gall bladder removal until I was rushed to A & E with a stone stuck in my Nike duct. Whilst waiting for op was also afraid to eat anything, try not to have more than 10g of fat a day, I lived on the same food for months - plain stuff, boiled potatoes, chicken and veg, chicken stew, white fish, veg soup, check everything you buy for amount of fat. It was boring but it worked.
Wish I could tell you what to do.
I have no stones. They tell me my gallbladder is hyperkinetic. I've had an ultrasound, a hida scan scheduled for a colonoscopy had an endoscopy and have gone low fat to no fat on my diet.
The gi doc put me on an antispasmodic because I have pinching pain underneath the right rib. That helps some. Haven't had any major gallbladder attacks. I thought I was having one last night but it was just heartburn. Another one of my stomach issues.
The heartburn I used to get went after gall bladder removal. They did blood test etc and said not gallstones, but it was.
Sort out a GP and get a referral asap.
Sticking to a low fat diet and eating smaller meals does help, but it's not a long term solution.
Be prepared for a long wait (see my name!). I was lucky in that I only waited from July 2016 to February 2017. I said I could be available at short notice and got a cancellation. I also opted to accept any HB surgeon. The 18 week count down does even begin until you are referred. Meantime you are left to cope with the symptoms. Take painkillers when the pain is bad and watch out for signs of jaundice. There are all sorts of remedies out there like ox bile and flushes but my advice is not to do anything unless it is recommended by a doctor as you don't want to make your condition any worse. If the pain is very severe or if you become jaundiced, go to A&E at once.
