Gallbladder issues

I have been having upper right stomach pain and pain radiating to my back. I had an upper endoscopy which showed excess amounts of bile and a colonoscopy that showed IBS. My HIDA scan showed that my ejection fracture was 71%. My GI said that was normal, but after reading other people's stories, I am starting to think that this is a hyperactive gallbladder. Is it possible to meet with a surgeon to see about getting it removed? Any input would be great. This has been going on for four months now.

Hi Siera,

If you don't mind me asking, do you have IBS-D or IBS-C?  Also, what did the Gi doctor find during your colonoscopy that indicated IBS?  I am asking because you could have motility issues, or you could have bile acid malobsorption.

My understanding is that unless they actually find you have gallstones they will not offer to remove your gallbladder.

I had gallstones a couple of years ago and they immediately said they would remove my gallbladder so that was what they did.

Good luck with all this.

Take care and keep in touch

Sarah

Wow I am the same!! My HIDA EF was exactly 71% too. They told me it was normal and have sent me on my way currently pushing for more help.l as I'm convinced it's my GB but all specialists and doctors keep saying it isn't.

Hi Lynda,

When I was younger I had IBS-C, but recently it was IBS-D and I am not one hundred percent sure what my GI Doctor saw. My blood work came back that I could have mono, I am not sure how as I have been home since I have been sick. I heard that mono is affiliated with the liver and gallbladder.

So you could have mono now, or does the blood work indicate you could have had mono?  There are several ways that you could have been exposed to it...

At any rate, mono can be dangerous, and particularly for someone who's already debilitated.
