Gallbladder issues?

Hi all.  I've been having what I would describe as intermittent RUQ pain.  It's worse after eating, but not immediately after eating.  I eat a relatively healthy diet and it doesn't seem to matter what I eat, sometimes I have the pain and sometimes not.  It's a gnawing pain, up under my right rib cage and sometimes lying on my right side makes it worse.  Labs were normal, ultrasound "unremarkable".  I have a HIDA scan scheduled in a month (!!!  seems so long!).  It does seem to get worse with gas and definitely causes nausea and lack of appetite.  Sound familiar to anyone with gallbladder issues?  Did these symptoms resolve after removal?  Thanks in advance.

Hi Jamie, have they done a CT scan as sometimes an ultrasound won't show gallstones. A hida scan is good to show whether your gallbladder is working properly or not.

I couldn't lie on my right side at all in the end and I had the right sided pain underneath the ribs and feeling of sickness after eating. I didn't have a bad diet either so not typical for gallstones but it was only the hida scan that showed that it wasn't working properly. Generally after removal your symptoms should resolve but it is a slow process.

Alot of people have been on this site and had their gallbladders removed and once recovered they haven't been back on the site only a few remain to help others. Don't forget this is a very common operation and the majority don't have any problems afterwards.

Good luck with your hida scan and let me know how you get on. A month will soon go by, but yes I know the feeling. I have the pain clinic in a month too.

Look after yourself, take care.

Thank you Katherine.  It's nice to hear that your symptoms cleared up following surgery.  Thank you for responding.

I will be sure to keep the post updated following my HIDA.  Good luck at the pain clinic.

hi, sounds very similar to my bruised rib ache, I also get gas, bloating, reflux, wind pains. My labs are all normal too however I have multiple mobile gallstones, picked up twice by ultrasound ( they didnt show at all on the CT)

I am waiting removal currently, so hoping mine is resolved too

hopefully your HIDA scan will show something?

 good luck

Oh good luck with your surgery. Any idea when it will be? I've not had a Ct scan, but I've been told it's next following the hida (if the hida is normal).

I'm most worried about my lack of appetite and wt loss- 10# in a month!

hi, yes I lost 10kg from October to beginning of December, lost 15kg so far! I eat LOTS of corn chips and dark chocolate to keep my calories up LOL ( the dark choc gives me reflux though)

Surgery should be shortly after my pre op which is the 13th June ( keep thinking its the 11th but just checked lol) but not entirely sure.

So, I got my hida scan done and it was normal. They are saying it isn't my gallbladder. Now back to square one.

A gnawing pain sounds like ulcers to me.

Hope you find out what is causing your symptoms soon.

Thank you! My pain is now in my left upper back which I guess is common in ulcers?
