Gallbladder op

Hi everyone, I'm due to have my gallbladder removed next friday but im in two minds now after reading all the problems it can cause.my problem is i have no symptoms but a polyp on the gallbladder which could turn cancerous although i understand this is rare, so the surgeon wants it out to be on the safe side, but reading everyones difficultys had put me off, i really dont know what to do, any advise please

Hi, How were you diagnosed? (if you dont mind me asking!!) I have symptoms but put it down to something else....it was only when I got an MRI for that, that the gallbladder issue was noted. I'm going to see a surgeon today and see what they say. Where on your gallbladder is your polyp?

I had mine removed and am totally ok. As are the majority of people. There are a small percent who are left with horrible problems..

but my surgeon said to me your symptoms may not disappear if something else is causing the symptoms .  And a small percent have post op problems . But if your surgeons good  you should be ok. There's a risk with everything.

I think a risk of cancer is worse . Cancer treatment is not a nice option . And you'd end up having to have your gallbladder removed anyway..

Just remember those of us who use this site need help and advice if we are ok we don't use the site. I use it as my hubby has diabetes and CFS.

make a list of plus and negatives and weigh them up ... Hope all goes well

Hi bellaboo, I had an ultrasound for something completely different to start with, which showed a thickening off the gallbladder wall, so i had a ct scan follow up which they now  say is a polyp, to be honest I saw the surgeon for 2 minutes, he asked if i had any problems which I dont and then said we need to take it out to be on the safeside, I really don't know if I should after reading all the problems, please let me know how you get on

I think you should take notice of the fact that you could have cancer rather than what other peoples problem is. Cancer is worse than anything else that could be sorted by antibiotics

Thanks Sally and Debbie, i certainly know what cancer and its treatment is like as the Wife had been fighting the disease for the last 6 years, maybe its stupid of me but i just dont want any problems should it turn out to be nothing, docs know best i suppose.

its always best to be safe than sorry

Hi, I had my Gallbladder removed yesterday and I'm not going to lie I'm in a lot of pain now but have been told this only lasts a few days, I had a lot of discomfort from the gallstones and made the decision to have my gallbladder removed, it is a bigger op than what you think but worth it if it stops u having further problems, hope this helps with what you decide to do

Hi Len,

Just wondering if you went through with the surgery and how it went.

hope you are feeling well

Gail

Hi Gail, its this friday so will let you know how it goes, getting a bit nervous now ;  wink .

Hi Len

it will be fine.

a few days of aches and pains then it settles.. That's the gas they inflate you with making it's way out .. Through your shoulders. Amazing ..

So glad you've decided..

Sally
