Gallbladder operation done - surgeon couldn't find gallbladder

Hi,

I had gallbladder surgery last Tuesday after my ultrasound showed a severely contracted gallbladder with stones and when I came round the surgeon came to see me and said he couldn't find the gallbladder...he believes it is inside my liver. Apparently in his 30 years as a surgeon I am only the second patient he has seen this with. i now need another ultrasound to 'find' my gallbladder and then surgery again to remove it.  I am thinking all sorts of things now..did they actually see it on the original ultrasound - surely the ultrasound doesn't lie? If it's in my liver can this still be done keyhole? Not sure anyone will have any input...just putting it out there as im confused. Thanks

No answers for you as never heard of that happening to anyone

Before. I hope that they sort it soon, and wish you well.

I bet you are confused bloody hell i didnt know this could happen. I have done alot of research since having mine removed last year as i am still suffering with frequent flare ups. I can imagine you mind must had gone into overdrive when the surgeon told you that. Did the surgeon explain how it has gone into your liver? I just cant get my head round that. Well if you are not confident with the ultra sound scan now which i can imagine you are probably having doubts i would tell your surgeon you either want an MRI scan or CT scan to find out exactly what is going on. You have a right to its patient choice. I really hope you get some answers very soon you need to know what the bloody hell is going on. If you dont mind let us know how you get on it will be interesting to see what the surgeon says next or what he does next in this kind of situation take care

I have never heard of this before,,, imigining your GD and what's going on in your head. What's important here from your posting you have the right surgeon. He has experience with that kind of  problem. Pray pray and lets God sort it out for you. How I came throught by Praying . I had my GB removed on may 18 with out any complication 42yrs old .

Thank you all...I now have appt for another ultrasound on 26th june and appt with surgeon at end of July. .seems like it will be another long process! Even though they never removed anything I can't get over how painful the incisions are and its nearly 2 weeks post surgery :-(

Fingers crossed for you and i really hope you get some answers eother way i wouldnt leave until you do. Yeah the incisional sites can be sore for a while i suppose it all depends on how quite you body heals. Im sort of used to it now i have had 9 laproscopies. I bet you cant wait till your appointments

I recently had the same problem and am awaiting a m.r.i scan to investigate more but still waiting for some straight answers as to why I suffer with pain constantly

Hi angief,

What you have described here is exactly what has happened to me! The surgeon couldn't find my gallbladder and said they will probably have to do major surgery to go in and find it. In the meantime they did a CT scan and an endoscopy and still can't see a gallbladder. I don't want anymore surgery! Anyway, I see that your post is 3 yrs. old but I was wondering if you would be so kind as to reply to this and let me know what ended up happening in your case?

Thank you,

Krystal

Hi carrie54818,

I see that 4 mnths ago you had the same issues that I'm having now. Best of luck to you, I hope you have had a smooth outcome. If you would be so inclined, would you please answer my post and let me know what happened in your case?

Thank you,

Krystal

Hi Krystal.

Hoping you will see this and reply. Ultrasound showed my gallbladder full of stones and no bile. Had surgery today to remove it. After surgery told they couldn't find a gallbladder at all and baffled by it. They want me to do an MRI next week and will get in contact with ultrasound imaging clinic to try work out how images were taken of a gallbladder.

Any updates from yourself?

Some people are born with out gallbladder.
