I had an ultrasound scan a couple of weeks ago and was informed by my GP that I had a polyp (about 1cm size) my GP has said that she will be referring me to the hospital specialist to get it checked out. I have waited two weeks to get these results and I am getting constant nausea heartburn fatigue etc, and just feel Yuk! I just feel quite worried that I need to see a specialist and wondered of anyone has any help and advice, or if someone has been in the same position as me and what the outcome for them? THANKS
They’ll either be referring you to a surgeon or gastroenterologist. That’s a good thing though as they’re the best people to see. GP’s know a little about everything but aren’t experts at many things which is why they refer you on. When there’s something wrong with your gallbladder you do end up feeling pretty crappy. Hope you get seen soon so you can start feeling better!

I guess your right in what you say GP’s only know so much and leave the rest to the experts. So I’m not going to stress over it & hopefully I’ll get sorted out soon!

I had my gallbladder removed because of a 7mm polyp, so smaller then the one you have. From all the research I did and going on advice from my surgeon, removal was the recommended course of action. Hope you get sorted soon and try not to worry.

Thanks for your reply. I am trying not to stress over it just wondering if removal will be on cards for me as well. How are you doing after having had the removal done? Hope you are fully recovered and feeling much better now after having it removed. I am not sure if I want to have it done or not, although I do feel lousy most days and wonder if it is all down to my gallbladder? for me it’s the fatigue and nausea that’s the worst! Did you find that to? along with a bloated tummy? Hope things have greatly improved for you since the op

My main issue was pain in my upper right quadrant. After some investigations a 5mm polyp was found. However I was told they don’t usually cause symptoms. It was monitored for 3 years and over time my pain became much worse and I developed other digestive issues. At 7mm removal of my gallbladder was recommended. I am the biggest wimp going and was terrified! I am now 14 months post op but unfortunately I still have the same pain as before removal but my other digestive issues have improved slightly. The op itself is fairly straightforward but just take it easy afterwards and let your body heal in its own time. I was told that for any polyp over 1cm then removal is the recommended treatment.
Please don’t be frightened after you have spoken with a specialist you will have all the facts and I’m sure you’ll be glad to be getting rid of it. I don’t regret removal one bit.

I also have a polyp that has increased in size to 10 mm, along with gallstones. I’ve been putting off having the surgery for 5 years now but since the polyp is growing and I am in pain, I feel I have no choice. I have a consultation with a surgeon in a few weeks. Let us know what they have recommended for you. My doctors have told me that 10 mm is the cut off point for polyps because it becomes more risky of being malignant. I’ve had pain and bloating as well so you’re not alone! <3

Sorry to hear your going through the same issues sounds like we’re in the same boat! Where do you experience the pain and does it go into your back? I seem to wake up with backache most days but on the left side?! so not sure if it’s the polyp in the gallbladder causing it. I too am unsure as to having the surgery and would rather not if I can help it! I will let you know what the outcome is and what they recommend. Do keep me posted on how you get on yourself and hope all goes well for you:)

got it done in Perth. sure it was in the nuclear medicine part. Most hospitals should offer this though
ive already seen 3 surgeons which two of them suggested HIDA SCAN. The last surgeon i had an appointment with 2 weeks ago suggested it as well but he requested MrCp scan first which was canceled twice by the main radiologist in dumfries hospital saying they dont think i dont need the MrCp scan so i had a letter through from surgeon this week saying he discussed HIDA scan with them but they said none of the uk centres would do it as its an old scan so theyre sending me for another two ultrasounds, one when im fasting and another one after i had something to eat. this has been going on for 4 years and Im still not getting anywhere

What is a HIDA SCAN anyway ?!
i think its to see the problems with liver, pancreas, gallbladder and its function. i live in D&G and had two consultants that suggested it to me recently but all of a sudden they dont do it in the uk but i think its rubbish.
it shows if there are any issues with the gallbladder, liver or bile ducts. The scan gives you an ejection fraction which shows how well the gallbladder is functioning. So when i got the scan it showed mines wasn’t working well. Once i got my gallbladder out it showed i had chronic cholecystitis. It was a surgeon who got me the scan as my ultrasound showed stones first time, couldn’t see them on second scan then couldn’t be sure on third one.
Scottie13 is there any way to find out if they still do HIDA SCAN these days as i assume you had it done a good while ago?
I’d phone your local hospital and ask to speak to nuclear medicine department and ask them directly. Pretty sure they’re not gonna randomly stop doing this test as people do need it
yes, thats exactly what i thought. i just hope they’d be able to give me that kind of information
