Gallbladder problems

I had issues with gallstones an inch and a half to 2 inches the specialist recommended I remove my gallbladder so I was hesitant to go to the hospital and get it removed on the other hand I was in so much pain so therefore I had the procedure done at 5:30 a.m. had the surgery at 7:30 a.m. it's been 3 weeks now and I had an incision that opened up very painful long story short had a yellow fluid coming out so the following day I had a scheduled appointment so they reopened it and told me that I need to take antibiotics so I've taken all my antibiotics tomorrow is my last day I've been packing it with gauze although it's still painful it has a little bit of red blood on the gauze and some yellow through it seems like it's healing could I still have an infection?

Hi. Yes the antibiotic may not have worked. This is a big problem these days. Please see a doctor as soon as you can. I had to have 2 antibiotics before mine cleared.

Did they take a swab to send to labs? Antibiotics these days work on specific infections. It could be that what they gave you won’t work on your particular infection. Yellow discharge is a sign of infection.

What is your temperature like- raised temp a sign of infection. The incision itself may be hot up the touch.

Keep it clean. Wash hands before and after cleaning wound. Use cool boiled water and cotton wool. 1 wipe, then discard cotton wool and repeat until clean. Be gentle but firm.

Above all get yourself to a doctor. Best wishes. X

Hi Sonya

I'm not a doctor so would be hesitant to give medical advice. I do know that a wound can look infected but not be or look fine yet still be infected so if you are at all worried see your doctor smile

Totally agree that anyone in any doubt about their health should see a doctor, however, that’s not always possible these days of cash strapped NHS and 4 hour + queues in A&E. I was refused 3 times by my GP during attacks and forced to go to A&E where I waited for hours in pain.

If anyone is like me and just doesn’t know if their symptoms are ‘normal’ or merit trying to see a doctor, this site is great as many of us have been there and got the tee shirt to prove it.

Can I also add that the NHS 111 service is brilliant. They can even get you to see a doctor if they think it’s necessary or at least speak to one for advice. Yes you do seem to have to answer a lot of seemingly stupid questions but in the end they did come through for me.
