Gallbladder Removal, Chronic Diarrhea, and Fiber Supplements

Hello to everyone, I had my gallbladder removed in late May 2016 and I've been having chronic diarrhea ever since. I read enough on bile acid malabsorbtion, FODMAP, soluble and insoluble fibers, cholestyramine, and colesevelam to have a general idea on what's happening in my body.

What would be helpful at this point is to hear from anyone who has had similar problems and has tried soluble fiber supplements like psyllium husk and/or acacia.

Specifically, I have found pastas to be helpful in reducing diarrhea symptoms, so I'm considering trying out soluble fiber supplements. It would be great to hear from those who have similar problems and have tried fiber supplements.

I would appreciate any replies, but an in-depth discussion on the experience of using fiber supplements and/or any other helpful solutions to this dreadful symptom would be greatly appreciated.

My personal advice that had bought my Bm down to 1 movement a day. Gallbladder removed in June.

First of all I also follow FODMAP and low fat I have not eaten pasta but rice potato and white bread ( yes not a good food according to FODMAP) but white bread has been fine

I also eat small meals but not tiny ( breakfast 2 pieces of toast with strawberry jam)

I have also done alot of research on dumping syndrome. I do not drink within an hour either side of eating and it has made a massive difference especially when being active as the increase the digestive process. Low sugar also helps

Seems very restrictive but that is what I've had to follow instead of heading down the road of tablets etc.

I hope this helps.

I had a similar problem after my gall bladder was removed.   I started taking 40 to 60 grams of fiber per day which resolved the loose stool issue - I eat 2 or 3 No Cow Bars every day which are protein bars that are high in fiber (19-20g of fiber per bar).    I try to limit the amount of fat that I eat because it upsets my stomach.  I also limit the amount of sugar I eat.

In addition to the loose stool problem, I also had a lot of digestive issues and developed acid reflux.   I started taking probiotics everyday and supplement with digestive enzymes - once I started doing that, the pain and reflux went away.

I should mention that my gallbladder was extremely large and filled with gallstones right before it was removed.  It was fused to my liver and pancreas (the bile duct was fused to my large intestine)  They ended up doing open surgery because of that.

In case you are interested in the products, I've included links below:

I don't always buy them from Amazon - the probiotics, I get from Walmart.  The No Cow Bars can be purchased from Amazon, GNC and other online retailers (it pays to shop around, because the price varies).
