Gallbladder removal - how long to recover?

Hi all - I have surgery on Friday 6th April for key hole gall bladder removal surgery as a day case. I am 28 years old and usually good with pain and recovery.  I have a 2 hour dental appointment scheduled on Tuesday 10th April, do you think I should rearrange this appointment?

Thanks so much!

I too am having surgery soon but I would ere on the side of caution and re schedule the dentist for a while longer !!

Thanks Alyson! I think that you may be right there! Are you having the same as me?

I do think you should reschedule your dental appointment.  Your external incisions should heal in 4-6 weeks.  Internal stitches can take longer than 6 months.  Each person is different.  This is major surgery!  Your body will also need to adjust to not having a gallbladder, too.

Also, take it easy and give yourself time to heal!  Don't think you can start working out or doing chores right away.  xx

Thank you so much Lynda! I think you are right  it is major surgery! Thank you - I shall reschedule! Xx

Hi again , yes I’m having the same plus dye being run through me [?] so my surgery is being extended by another 1 1/2 hours . I am going to take everyone’s advice as I am much older than than you [60] , and get plenty of rest with walking around the house in between to dispel gas !!

In all seriousness I hope you do well afterwards and let me know how you are after a while . Don’t do as I used to and act as if you have had nothing done, because it will catch up with you later !!!

Hi there rearrange 💐

Each person is different.  I was repairing automobiles 3 days after surgery.  My insides were sore and I moved kind of slow, but the bills weren't going to pay themselves.

Are you removing for stones or low functioning? What are the symtoms you have currently?

Hey there, I am having it removed as there is a 2.5 size gallstone which causes me frequent pain. The pain is mostly a dull ache but about three to four times a week it will be unbearable on my right side which radiates to my back.  I am so nervous about my op! I have read some horror stories after removal you see!

I think the vast majority of people heal up and go on with life.  The people that have problems vent online, so it seems like a  larger percentage of people have problems than really do.

if your only issue is pain and no gastritis, ulcers , then there is a high sucess on the gb surgery. Personally i met 5 persons who removed their gb and they are doing great. no issues.but myself is in sidelines as i also have gastritis and non working gb with stones and i do get lot of bloating, burping compared to the pain in gb area,i'm bit consused to remove my gb or not.

Thank you I think you may be right. My date has been moved to the 20th so will stay positive
