Gallbladder removal

Had my gallbladder removed yesterday. I am a little sore which was to be expected. My main problem is my uvula has swollen and is touching the back of my tongue which is making me choke. Has anyone else had this?

It's more than likely from the tune they put down your throat. I was told to eat ice chips and drink lots of fluids, like water and juice.

Hi Natalie  when I had my gb removed I woke up on can't recall anything making me choke.. I was swollen quite a bit and very sore like as if I had been kicked in the stomach and all my muscle's were suffering.. that feeling lasted around 7 days.. did u happen to feel sick after food? I had cheese and potato pie in the evening because I was starving & I couldn't keep it down.. to this day I can't keep down mash.. tea.. icebreaker etc.. seems to way to heavy for my stomach. Another problem I have is diarrhoea sometimes due to the food I eat at the time..

Hope u have a speedy recovery smile

Hopefully your operation will make as big a difference to your life as mine did! As for the problem in your mouth - mine was not quite like that, although I did have the feeling that something "was there" and it wasn't really bad, I was just aware of it. That cleared up in about 48 hours, so maybe it won't take too long till you are back to normal!

Can I ask has n e body else has weight gain after the operation please rolleyes

Hi Kelly

I know of a few people who have had weight gain after removal of GB and that is becasue htey think they van go back to eating normally again. You need to cut your fat intake to give your liver a chance to normalise. I dont know how long ago you ahd it out but the liver has to work harder to process the fat.

I don't know about long term, but my operation was 6 weeks ago today and I am eating more or less normally again but have not gained back any of the weight I lost prior to the surgery.

@designergirl12

Thanks for getting back to me 22 August last year I've put on nearly 5 stone it's awful for me as I have never really been big 2bh I don't really eat much fat now I did at beginning I suppose which is what did it I think.. started back to the gym on the walking machines this week and swimming.. If I lived on take aways I'd understand but I cook everything myself.. Thanks for the advise tho.. its nice to speak to people going through the same things smile

I lost lots when I had the surgery and it was awesome as I couldn't eat tidy or keep any thing down its been the last 6 months that it has piled on.. starting to work to get rid of it now tho smile

My life is much better without the pain thank god.. It was instant relief when I came around smile

Reason for this is the Inchubation tube which is applied when you are under aneasthetic to keep the airway open. Common for sore throats Post Op.. Quite often you get knocked and bruised and feel tender when you come round. Glad the GB has been removed..Drink plenty of Water and Ice will reduce the sweling.

That was like me - instant relief as soon as I woke up! It was like a miracle to me! haha

Thank you for your replies ladies, big help... Was also wondering how long you kept your stitches covered up for and how long you left it to have a shower/bath?

I kept mine for a dew days covered over with the patches when I had a shower etc after a week or so the one around my belly I exposed laying on the bed letting the air get to it to heal.. The belly button can get infected sometimes due to sweat etc.. did happen to me but had antibiotics & I was fine smile

Hi Nalalie how long did you have to wait after being diagnosed to have the gallbladder out, mine was diagnosed at the end of May and I have been passed about at the hospital with MRI scans to see if I had blockage on still not seen surgeon yet, 25th September, I am fed up and have allot of othr relevant pains due to fibromyalgia and I think this is worse as I have allot of gallstones.

Hi Stella. I first got diagnosed last November due to having a blockage and turning jaundice. Was in hospital for 4 days. I was on holiday at the time so once i came home i went to my own doctor. But the hospital lost my notes so had to go through the whole thing again. Had my op cancelled twice and finally had my op on Weds. Only thing that made it better for my was too not have spicy or greasy things and not drink fizzy drinks, i also found i couldnt be in the same position for long without aching. I know its painful and its the most annoying thing to have to wait for your op. I ended up complaining to PALS in the end and thats the only reason that my op got sorted. Hope this helps Stella x

Its now 4 days since i had my op. I have had a shower with the dressings on but am i now ok to have a bath without the dressings on?

I took baby cough medication in (it is usually honey apple and glycerine no meds included) and was given this after I woke up as my throat was sore, I then had lockjaw and lost my voice but the cough mixture really helped as it coated my throat.   I threw up alot in recovery and had a migraine too and stayed overnight, will now tell them this for my next surgery in 6 weeks apparently it is a quite common reaction and next time I will have my eye mask close to hand as they just put a pillowcase over my eyes.
