Hi
So I'm in the same situation Im 8 months post-op and I'm still having regular attacks I've had several scans and appointments to see if there is stones stuck or any infections but everything is clear and the doctors and hospital are now unsure on what else they can do for me I've cut out all red meat and high fatty foods and living on a basic bland diet which is so frustrating but isn't worth having something I know sets me off and triggers a attack .. I've been prescribed codeine phosphate 30mg and also have oromorph 5mg on stand by for when I need really need it ... Over the last few weeks I've been having some back issues sciatica related and have been taking more codeine that my usual amount as only take them when I have an attack for the after pains and I've been having more attacks than usual I read up on any side affects on both codeine phosphate and oromorph last night around 3am due to an attack keeping me up and I read something very interesting that both medications can cause contractions of the bilary duct which says to me that the medication that the doctors and hospitals have prescribed me could actually be causing the attacks to happen in the first place . I'm booking an appointment with my GP tomorrow to discuss this as I'm in desperate need of pain relief for my sciatica ... Anybody else have any issues after taking any medications ??
Nichols.
hi fancy that ah , medication can cause bilery contractions
nice to see someone on the same page as me as it were !!
im 4 months list opp and I ask you how on eat=rth can we trust docs ah !!
yea antibiotic erythromycin caused my gallbladder problems for sure 1oo per cent !!
and I’ve since learnt that their is ant one single antibiotic , not even one that does not carry the risk of gallbladder issues as a possible side effect !!
not one in the world !!!
go figure ah ?
hope things improve for Nichola.
stay in touch please and keep me posted likewise .
Hi
I remember before I had my op and recently after I was taking co-codamol 30/500 and these were cashing very similar attacks.. this was almost 2 years post op. Other than that I can take almost anything else. Could your ducts be blocked again? I know this can happen post op?
Hope you get to the bottom of what is going on.
I'm 4 years post op now with no problems at all.
Good luck hun x
Kelly.
no probs at all now ?
your very lucky , but good on you.
how long did it take post opp to get to that stage though ?
might be helpful post for lots !!
regards.
Hi Nichola. My gallbladder has been out for over 15 years and I have probably been scoped every which way at least 10 times and had numerous MRI's with ZERO help from any of the doctors. Pain medication doesn't touch this kind of pain. Only recently have I discovered that a drum given to me for diarrhea years ago IS THE SOLUTION I have been looking for. It is Cholestyramine for Oral Suspension and instead of only taking when I have diarrhea, I am to take it every day. My primary care doctor told me she has been treating people with this problem for 20 years with a drug called GEMFIBROZIL TAB, 600 MG. I told her I had been to no less than 10
gastro doctors (who are supposed to be specialists in this field) and none has ever offered this. She said she also doesn't understand why they don't treat the problem but she recognizes that they just don't. Please give it a try. If you need hydrocodone for other problems, just know that it doesn't touch the gallbladder issue.
Hi everyone
The most recent update from my appointment with the GP yesterday they gave me gabapentin for pain relief for my back issues instead of codeine that seems to be setting off my attacks well Lord and behold guess was other medication gives attacks for the bilary duct GABAPENTIN I asked the doctors and they promised me there was going to be no side affects from these tablets and I've probably had the worst night of attacks having one that lasted for 4 and a half hours ! The only other thing they want to offer me is a pain relief patch to wear for 24hrs at a time I'm so reluctant to try anything they want to give me which they say is safe for me to take as I'm not sure they know what I should be having she also wanted me to go back to see a specialist to get it investigated further so she has referred me for that ...
Hit another brick wall yet again ...
Checked so many other forums last night about gabapentin and they are all saying that it has made them worse
Hope everyone is ok and gets the answers they need x
Hi
Yes no problems at all. It took a while maybe 1.5 to 2 years.
I still can't eat mash potato or icecream in big quantities as it repeats on me.
Certain foods can give really bad heart burn not sure if that's something to do with gallbladder removal I haven't quite worked that.
Hope your feeling a little better now x
Kelly.
thank you.
i hope I get to that stage I really do .
my only real complaint now is pretty much perm infant pain under my right ribs ,
‘that seems to be their mot of the time , it doesn’t seem to be related to food I don’t think ,
‘it’s just like a stinging kinda burning stabbing pain in the upper right quadrant.
did you have that and if so for how long !
im fine with mash,
ide not risk ice cream to be honest lol.
The only thing that touches my pain is regular old Tylenol...codeine doesn't touch it. I have been helped by taking Omeprazole 40 mg (prescription) twice per day...has reduced the acid in my stomach caused by not having a gallbladder. The pain in my right side under my ribs was enough to go to emergency room, and of course, they found nothing wrong. Had a scope two weeks ago and the gastro doctor removed 50 cc's of bile from my stomach and have felt 100% better after that. However, I had been in extreme pain for two months, so believe the acid has been there for a long time. I am just hopeful that the Omeprazole continues to work...
