Gallbladder surgery 8 days out

Update : I went to the surgeons today and got my one week check up. He said everything was healing great , incisions healing up nicely. I can start lifting up to 20 lbs now and resume work at my fisrt job. He said listen to my body. If it to painful or hurting , stop and rest. My other job, I can't resume for another week. It involves heavy work and lifting upwards to 50 lbs at a house farm . He said to start stretching and walking everyday and increase as I can that way it won't be so painful when I go back to the farm

Hey you cannot lift that weight only after a week. You might tear the incisions or the inside stitches. Please you don't want to go back to ER. TAKE I T EASY. YOU JUST AD MAJOR SURGERY. Hope you stay well.

I have to agree with fernando !!

just sounds like madness to me !!

im 5 months post opp and still getting pain !!

ide be very careful if I were you.

Hi Chewy it would at least take you 3 to 6mths to recover from the op. It might healed from outside but inside the stitches and wound wld be still fresh. Please do not carry and do heavy stuff. Your body needs to rest now. Please take care.

I really would recommend you don’t do any lifting for a while. It takes several months for your body to heal internally, and lifting could cause internal stitches to tear and you could get a hernia or other damage. Sounds like very poor advice from the doctor. Go easy.

Well, that's just crazy advice!  Elsewhere on this site a surgeon told someone she could go back to the gym in three weeks, and she hurt herself terribly.  External stitches will take some people up to 6 weeks to heal, but internally, it's much, much longer!

Internally, it can take a couple of months.  You don't want to develop scar tissue or adhesions.  You have this one chance to heal.  Please give your body the time it needs!
