Gallbladder surgery after Mono

In 2010 had 3 gallblader attacks. All after high fat meals. Seen DR had ultra sound and found sludge. sceduled to have it removed. Please note i am TERRIFIED of surgery. I mean I know everyone is nervious but I am utterly terrified. Did a lot of recearch on internet which may have been a bad idea. Found whats called a HIDA SCAN. So day of surgery asked dr why he never ran one. HE said we could so cancled surgery. Scan cam back working at 89%. Dr said stay on low fat and if more pain let him know. Its now 6 years later. Was diagnosed with MONO in July . Liver inflamed, Splean inflamed and had mono enduced ensephrolitis. 2 weeks later had gallbladder attack. Lasted about 3 hours. Went on really low fat diet. New attack on Sunday (todays thrursday) really painfull..  Lasted 5 hours in ER. Morphine didnt touch it. Ultrasound showed one larger stone (about 12 mm) at the duct entrance and sludge/possible small stones behind it. Showed fluid around gallbladder . Blood test showed eliveated white cell count. Surgan called in wanted to do surgery but let me go home (after attack) because I own my own buisiness and was contracted to fix a customers roof ( Rain due next day). No pain when surgan pushed on stomic. Thats what madehim say ok. No pain rest of that day. (monday) fixed roof turesday and seen my DR. She said looked ok and made appointement with surgan. (Oct 5th)  so bout 3 weeks.. Went to ER yesterday because stoic was sensitive . NOT AN ATTACK but just kinda sore. Redid ultrasound, showed more fluid . Blood showed white cells had normilized but bellirubin at 2.7. Another surgan called in. He said I looked good and didnt think I was in danger. He said could have it out now, but may want to wait a few weeks because MONO diagnosis was only 5 weeks ago.. I still feal fatigued a bit but not as bad as when first dianosed. So I have one surgan says should have it out NOW and another says its ok to wait..Infact might be good idea..AND they are from the same office. Today felt ok early but did a lot of stuff, laundry and such. Stomic is a bit sore again..  Eatitng very low fat .. LOTS of fruit snacks and drinking applejuice. So what everyone think ? I can push issue and go back to ER and they will do surgery that way, or wait the few weeks. 2nd problem is dealing with this anxiety about waking up during or not making it through surgery. Not worried bout recovery, Just getting thru the table part. I am driving myself and wife NUTS.. !!!  Any help would be GREAT!

Get it out if you can. I did and never felt better

Well It has to come out. That's the easy part. I know that. The issue is when, I mean with the MONO, Dr says there is Risks , I mean the Liver is inflammed. Something about Fatty Liver. And he wouldn't blame me for waiting.. On other hand other Dr says it's a time bomb witing to go off. and do it now. Not to mention Trying to come to terms with how to handle the anxiety. Like I said I am driving myself and my wife nuts.

I had fatty liver when I did mine. Wasn't as serious as you are describing your case . I had gallstones, inflamed gallbladder, HIDA scan showed less than 15% function so u just walked into surgeons office and next day it was out, two hour surgery, laproscopic. No complications whatsoever

Damn wish it was that easy. Sometimes I get to the point where I am like screw it just do it now, but then I second guess and say, well maybe waiting for a couple weeks will let my body clear of MONO. I am not sure what mono can do with sugery but I guess being sick in anway when going under can have complications? ThenI start going into what if they think I am out and I am not . I know chances are low but heck my chances of getting MONO at 43 were also low. I have only had ugury twice , once whn I was 3 and once when i was 13. Even at 13 I was a wreck, and I didnt know anyhting bad could happen. I didnt know you could wake up during and I ddnt know you could have a reaction to the anisesia and die..

I too was terrified of surgery and suffered with attacks for 11 months. This was hell!!

Lost 5 stone. Food gave me anxiety. Totally fed up. Nearly lost my job through sickness.

Had it out last wed and every syptom. Including nausea, diaroeaa, burning stomach, back pain, fatique. Have gone and feel amazing.

Eaten everything i wanted chocolate, fish and chips the lot.

Ive suffered for a year and been calling an ambulance for 3x a week.

I cried on the way to theatre and nearly cancelled my op.

Honestly ,i wish id done it earlier.

Be brave cos its only you that is suffering.

Its a 40 minute keyhole op. Which are performed 600,000 times a year.

I feel your pain as i nearly went on anti depressants. Just help yourself and your other organs by getting it removed.

Me too and im only 8 days post op

So question is what Dr to licsten to. One says its a time bomb. Do it now and one says let the Mono clear out a bit longer to avoid complications

I am figuring they can hit me with valume or something soon as I get there ..Cause im gonna need it

Waiting a few weeks probably won't make much difference- many people have to wait a lot longer.  You may have another attack while waiting however and those aren't fun but if it's safer to wait because of the mono then I would probably wait a little while. Some people do have complications with this surgery so you do want to minimize those.  Watch for fever, feeling unwell and yellowing of the skin.  That can mean a stone got stuck and/or is infected.  That doesn't feel like an attack, it feels like an illness.  I had that and ended up hospitalized for several days.  There are risks either way.  Talk to the doctors about which way is riskier.

You see I never had any attacks just all sorts of digestive issues, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, weight loss, headaches etc. it was insane . Now it's out and gone and I am overweight. But I agree I would wait maybe a week or two if you can.

Yea nothing like that. I have fatigue but that could still be Mono. Dr alsom says the 12 mm stone is almost too big to go in the duct.. He only seen one case of it in his 8 years of practice. Smaller ones are logged behind it , Guess they could push forward, but could pass those. I passed like 3 - 6 years ago (forgot to mentoion that part earlier) It's really the anxiety that is getting me . One day i wanna do it that day and a few minutes later I just want one more day with my kids just in case.. Like I said Im driving myself NUTS!

With me had gallstones since 2012 its only when I started having attacks that I was prescribed buscapan it worked a couple of times ended up in hosp in jan this year the pain was that bad the consultant said I was to go on a low fat / dairy free diet was told to lose a stone & half I ended up losing 2& a half stone had gallbladder removed 22nd july was in pain for a few weeks but ok now I would recommend you have it removed you will feel much better just if you can stick to low fat it helps I went into hosp 7.30 & was discharge about 6pm they send you out with dressings & painkillers feel great now they will check you over make sure your fit enough 1st for your op no need to worry as worrying dont help matters they will explain exactly what they are going to do glad I had mine removed good luck I was almost 16stone now down 13st 7

Yea Im like 197 lbs , really dont want to loose much beng 6'2" LOL..  Like I said post op I can deal. If I can deal with a GB attack I figure I can deal with Post op pain..  Just got to make it to Post Op..

If you die, no more pain. The Internet was clearly a bad move for you because you are a worrier.

Why would you assume that you are going to be the one to wake up during surgery. These surgeons have done thousands of these operations.

Sooner that you get it done the better.

Yea, I triedthinking that way. Unfortunitly that also means I leave my 13 year old son, who is my life. Really I don't think I care in a way, about me . I can deal. Heck if I de. Things may go black and i'll never know. Or maybe there is a heaven, or maybe Ghosts exist. Whatever is on the other side, I'll deal with when the time comes. My consern is how much it would hurt him. What it would do to him. So the , pain would be gone, doesnt work very well, It's the living who suffer. As for waking up. I really don't know why. I mean I know the chances are low. I think it's between 1 and 40000. I mean thats pretty good odds. I read there is more of a chance to be struck by lighting (Which I was almsot 3 years ago..LOL.. Hit about 50 yards away) So again, I think it's just that all it takes is a mistake on the part of the anesesialogist . Or a faulty machine. Or simply a bad dose of the drug. Or.. here I go again... Sigh...

Stop suffering. You say your son is your life but it's not much of a life for him watching his dad suffering.

I had my op 10 years ago, best thing ever.

Sure I've suffered with ibs ever since but not ending up in hospital because of the pain is wonderful.

The longer you wait the worse the pain will get, it's not going to get better by itself.

So tell the doctor, do it..

I cant un -terryify you of surgery but I can say that you will be out like a light. I just remember smelling a lovely berry smell then nothing. Recovery isn't too bad either apart from trying to straighten up to go to loo. Let's face it we are all a bit terrified of surgery.  Even those who have had it before. Good Luck!!!!
