Gallbladder surgery pain

Hey there, I had my gall bladder removed 9 days ago. The first 4 days i was slow and a little sore around my incision sites which is expected being cut open. Days 5 and 6 I felt pretty good But Still just laid around most the time and rested. When I woke up day 7 I had a pain in my right side upper abdomen above my hip right where my ribs start. It's an internal pain that feels like being stabbed with a knife. Certain movements and I can't breath heavy at all or it's painful. It's definitely more painful than the incision sites. I have a Dr appt Tuesday but figured I'd ask anyways if this was normal? Is it just pain from an organ being removed from my body? just found it odd I had no pain whatsoever until the 6th morning like this.

7th morning I meant.

Hi Justin76736:. Yes it is normal. I had the same issues when I was healing last Feb 2017. It takes time for your body to go back to normal. Alot of the cramping and pains are from the special gas they used to blow up your abdomen. The cramping and pains are caused by your organs going back to their right places in your body after the gallbladder was removed. Just take it easy and relax and get plenty of rest. It takes usually about 6 weeks for your body to completely heal from the surgery. Take care

Hi Justin,

I would not worry too much. When I had my gall bladder out I had terrible pain for two weeks after the surgery. My Dr. told me that the gas that they use to inflate your abdomen stays inside of some people longer and causes a lot of pain. Which was the case for me. Once that gas was released I felt a lot better. I used a warm rice bag where I was hurting. If you don't have one you can pour some uncooked rice in a pillow case and tie a knot in it them warm it in the microwave for a minute or two.. I hope this helps, let us know how you're doing!
