Had nausea, right shoulder ache, reflux, fatigue etc and had my gallbladder out 3 months ago. I have most of my symptoms again and put loads of weight on so i am disappointed that i probably didn't need it out if i am still having all these issues.
Hi Dianne I am the same after nearly 4 years but my GB was badly infected and was just caught in time before it burst! but I can honestly say I have never felt so ill and frustrated! Yes I have put on loads of weight even though I have chronic Diahorea I have to take Bile Binders and Imodium every single day. Have you been back to see the Consultant? if not as your GP for a referral you dont have to put up with all that love. xxxx
No i have had no follow up or anything. I feel disheartened that i still have all the same symptoms. I feel bloated and full all the time and if i bend over sick/acid comes back up.
Hi are you in the UK? if you are you should have been seen six weeks after your op to make sure all was well!
Yes i am in the uk.
Hi Dianne,
I am sorry to hear of your issues. Did the doctor find gallstones or why did he remove gallbladder??
Reflux is a separate issue. Ask you doctor for a prescription for acid reflux.
see (GERD ) online. Also sleeping with ur head above your stomach can stop the acid from comin up the valve a nite. It a simple matter of gravity. There are bed wedges available for this condition available at hosital supply store, or sleeping a recliner for a few days and see that helps.
Also in most cases after gallbladder surgery it's important to avoid spicy foods, fatty foods and some dairy. The gallbladder supplies special enzymes to break up fatty foods. It no longer is available. It takes time for your body to adjust. Some doctors can prescribe enzymes tablets. Check your diet and see if changing the foods you eat helps.
I had one large stone. I am already on acid tablets from before i had my gallbladder out.
In that case love you go straight to your GP tomorrow tell them you need an urgent appointment! and tell your Doctor how your feeling and that you haven't had a follow up appt from the Consultant! Please do this Dianne and let me know how you get on love xxxx
I will thanks, but i am also going to diet properly tomorrow because i have been eating rubbish too.
But even so Dianne you should have been seen by your Consultant by now. I think if you try fatless and non dairy it might help it doesn't make any difference with me but it might hlep you xxxxxf
What advice did they give you with your ongoing symptoms?
Hi Dianne am sorry to hear your still suffering. Have you tried digestive enzymes. A lot of people who've had the gallbladder removed take them as they break down the fat in the food and help you digest food better. Have you diarrhea as well? I also had 1 large stone and have had vomiting nausea and diarrhea. I am a lot better now but only in the last few weeks but did have a large cyst on my ovary which I think was causing a lot of my symptoms. I had mine removed last December. I was on an ant acid but stopped it about 3 months after the operation as you should only really be on them if you have been diagnosed with reflux disease or gastritis. They stop your stomach producing acid which you need more than ever without a gallbladder to break down the food. Also it's common to have indigestion and heartburn symptoms after gallbladder removal. It can take 6-12 months for the body to adjust without a gallbladder. I would go back to your doctor and get checked out just in case. Hope you feel better soon. Your not on your own. There are many of us who've had side effects after the operation but for most they do go away. X
Well when it first started I was told by my GP it was something I would have to put up with but I am like a terrier with a bone I got in touch with the Consultant who did my op and asked him if this was normal and surprisingly he asked me to go and see him he then did an endoscopy and a colonoscopy but everything came back normal he sent me to see another Consultant who wanted me to take Codiene as that stops D but I didn't want to go down that road and get addicted anyway to cut a long story short I saw three Consultants and the last one said I have BAM Bile Acid Malapsorbtion which can apparently happen to 10% of people who have their GB removed. I hope that's not what you have love but you really do need a follow up appt at the hospital xxxx
I had an endoscopy just before having my gallbladder out and all that was found was mild gastritis.
I am in uk (Wales). That is part of uk isn't it?
I had my gallbladder out at end of April. Was not given any follow up appointment, just left to get on with it.
However I have been back to local GP who said things would settle down, it just takes time.
Still have to be a bit careful what I eat, nothing too fatty. But other than that feeling a lot better.
Sarah
Sorry you are struggling so much. What are these acid tablets you are taking are they Omeprzole? If so read Ace's warning about these.
I am now managing without them.
Hope things settle down for you
Sarah
Hi Sarah am glad to hear your managing without the antacid tablets. If you do get any issues try digestive enzymes first as they believe now that the cause of indigestion and heartburn is not too much acid but too little acid. Digestive enzymes can help that and also with breaking down the fat in food. Hope you continue to improve. X
Hi Sarah, I can't get over the fact you haven't had a follow up appt.! GB removal isn't a simple op it's regarded as major surgery! I thought everyone was called 6 weeks after the operation. I was called back and again after I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. Perhaps things have changed in the last 3 and a half years. xxx
Sandynan I had no follow up e
I had no follow up either sandynan. I did end up in hospital After 9 weeks and did hear a consultant tell another patient that had their gallbladder removed that their was no need for a follow up unless there was problems which he said he didn't anticipate as he had done such a great job!! He wasn't my surgeon!!x
