Gallstone diet

Hi

I've have been diagnosed with gallstones. I have at least 2x 1.5cm and they are mobile. I've been scheduled to have the gallbladder out but just waiting on a date.

Anyway I have a massive do not eat list. They include all grains, dairy, fructose, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, sugar, red meat, fat and anything that fermentes.

If I eat any of that or bigger a tennis ball I'll bloat cramps and the typical gallstone attack.

My question is what have you found that works and is interesting to eat. I'm totally over chicken and carrots.

I have also lost around 12kg in the last 2 months. I had the weight to lose but I don't want to lose anymore.

I am feeling starving

Hi aimee,

I hear your struggle. I am 5 weeks post o.p and still struggling with food options as I have no appetite but force myself to eat small amounts throughout the day. A friend suggested protein shakes with almond milk, almond butter, banana and protein powder. I would not consider that a meal before but it works.

Turkey and baked potato are good and I've found a protein infused water near me.

Good luck with your surgery and the healing process. I am learning from this group it takes a lot more time than the M.D. tells you.

I actually found pasta didn’t affect me, as long as I had it with tomato based sauces instead of anything creamy. And you can get red meat that’s low in fat too. So make your own burgers with low fat mince. If I had a steak I grilled it on the George Foreman then had it all cut up with peppers on a ciabatta. Took a liking to Levi Roots reggae reggae sauce for a bit of flavour. Bagels with Philadelphia less than 3% fat too.

I actually didn’t lose any weight because I didn’t eat a lot of fat before that and rarely ate chips either. What about making soups? Or fajitas without the guacamole or sour cream?

Tbh I Probably drank a lot of Ribena and irn bru which are both full of sugar but no fat so I wasn’t too bothered about sugar or calorie content.

Try eating things with less than 7g fat per 100g instead of completely removing it from your diet?

I’m sure someone said there’s a diet sheet on this site but haven’t actually looked for it. Good luck and hope you get your surgery date soon xx

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately I'm allergic to most grains including rice and dairy. So no bread for me.

I will try and find a dairy free protein powder.

I try to use a lot of herbs in my cooking to change things up.
