Gallstones and gallbladder removal

I want to share my experience with you because my when i was diagnosed with gallstones my GP recommended that visit this website and read other peoples storys and it helped me to not feel so scared about surgery.

I first started to get pain in January 2013, I only had pain once that month and it was bearable, my mum and I just put it down to blocked wind. In March the pain got worse and it made me sick so we finally decided to go to the doctors. My GP sent me for and ultrasound scan as he suspected gallstones. The ultrasound result can back and my GP was right. I was then referred to see a surgeon to see what the options were and to see whether or not it was a good idea to have my gallbladder removed, because was so young (16) I was also sent for blood tests to see if the gallstones were caused by cholesterol . However one night in may i was up all night in a large amount of pain I was rushed to hospital and admitted because a stone had moved out of the gallbladder and was stuck in a a duct. They then decided that i would have to have my gallbladder removed. Finally in august i was given an op date. I had keyhole surgery at the beginning of September 2013. And although i had some shoulder pain from the gas they use to pump you up with. I was glad that i no longer had to worry about when i would get pain next. It was the best decision I had ever made.

Glad you feel better Faith and long may it continue. The pain prior to having it removed is awful, hard to describe to others who have never experienced it!!! I used to swallow 6 Gaviscon tablets and drink gallons iof water believing I had chronic indigestion!!!

are you havin any side-effects ?

Thank you, yeah the pain was terrible, i can't swallow tablets so i was given soluble co-codamol and then when they stopped working i was given codeine. I did suffer with diarrhea for about 8 weeks after the op, however i don't suffer with it anymore.
