Gallstones - so worried and frantically searching Google

Hello. Been to the GP a couple of times as I've had a nagging internal discomfort to the right of my belly button for a couple of months. GP sent me for a scan on Thursday. The lady who performed the scan only scanned my upper abdomen (not where I have had the nagging feeling) and then said I have lots of gallstones . She wouldn't tell me anything else.

I'm now frantically searching Google and getting very worried especially as she didn't also scan further down. Really worried that a stone is stuck in my intestine, or worse; that it could be something more serious and spread to intestine. I'm SO scared and worried but not going back to the GP until next Friday for the full results.

I had blood tests done a couple of weeks ago and GP said everything looks normal although when I spoke to the receptionist she said ALT level was very slightly raised (I think it was 44?) but when I spoke to the GP just after, he said it was totally fine and that level was within the normal range. I assume it was higher than in my last blood tests? They said they wanted to retest in July.

Has anyone else had anything similar (niggling feeling futher down, near belly button with gallstones) and it's been ok??

Hoping for some reassuring words

Thank you in advance. X

Could be your appendix. You need to ask your doctor for further tests. Your ALT level is probably from your gall Stones that causing it to elevate. I am puzzled why your symptom is not pain at the right upper abdomen when you have multiple gall stones. Each one is different but did your dr recommended that you have your gall bladder removed? I had mine removed more than a month ago and was quite sore around the navel area which is understandable;now, it is almost gone. I had also loose Or LBM for two weeks and after taking kefir yogurt plain with probiotic which was recommended by the doctor it helped me. I no longer take it because my body has adjusted and back to normal. I asked if it is okay to take ox bile to ease my problem and he said it is not necessary because we do not need any more bile after gall bladder removal. ox bike is only for people with pancreatic problem. I listened to him and just took the yogurt.we really have to give our body time to heal. Hope this past experience of mine is helpful. if your pain persists keep mentioning it to you physician. Sometime

Pain from your right lower abdomen is caused by kidney stones. My father had that symptoms, I remember, and it hurts after his meal. when he was tested , they found out he had a huge Stone on his right kidney. Without tests

Done it is hard to tell where your pain is coming from. Good luck and I hope you will get your answers to your problem soon. Update us.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm glad to hear you are on the mend.

I haven't seen the GP for the full results yet - the lady who did the scan on Thursday just said I have lots of gallstones. I asked if that means surgery but she said she cant tell me anything else.

I've often had a kind of sticking feeling under my rib cage for quite a while - as if something is bigger than it should be if that makes sense - and I'm now assuming its because of the stones in the gallbladder?

I haven't had pain, just uncomfortable feelings under rib cage as well as the nagging feeling just to the right of my belly button - I would decribe it as if there's something like a spot/pimple inside. Sometimes it stings a tiny bit inside.  I have read that most people with gallstones don't have pain and the stones are only found when investigating something else! I never knew that.

Thanks for your help. I suppose I will just have to wait to see the GP on Friday. Just going out of my mind with worry in the meantime.

Thank you x

Sorry you're having these problems  I'd suggest that you get a referral to a gastroenterologist, who will know more about the digestive process, what tests to order and how to properly diagnose and treat you.

GP's don't have that level of expertise that one needs.  Please try not to be scared, just find a doctor who's better able to do what you need done.

Best of luck to you.  Please let me know how you get on.

Thank you. I suppose I've just got to wait until Friday but I'm just scared and wondered if anyone else has had a similar thing. I will see what he says on Friday. I'll let you know, thank you x

Being scared is a natural reaction.  Don't feel uncomfortable with it.  We're all worried when we encounter the unknown.

Thank you. X

Hi I have a couple of gall stones but the reason I went for a ultrasound was because of a dull ache / pain in my right rib area. This pain is what started the ball rolling. I am due to have removed end of June.

Try not to worry

Vickie

Wishing you all the best, Vickie!

Thank you x

Hi there Kaz, I just thought I would let you know what my consultant told me (top chap) - I have been going to see him, I don't have gallstones but symptoms same as gallstones.  According to him most adults have gallstones but are NOT aware of them and never cause a problem.  Therefore I would suggest that you push your dr to get some other tests done, like other people are mentioning I would suggest appendix as these can rumble along for quite some time giving symptoms.  Although I believe dr google to be very good it can also be quite scary and you end up reading things that send your mind into overdrive!! Good luck and do go and see your GP again.

All the very best.

Hello Joanna, thank you for your reply. Yes, I'm seeing him on Friday for the full results of the scan.

If you don't have gallstones but you have the same symptoms, what do you have?

Well, in my case the consultant has suggested that the gallbladder may be malfunctioning which can happen and you get the same symptoms, ie you are not getting bile into your stomach to break down food.  My consultant is very very clear that he does not remove a gallbladder lightly, there are risks in removing an organ and it can leave you with life changing problems, so he wants to be sure.  I am not a dr and this is only my experience, like I say there can be lots of reasons for abdomnal probs so keep going to the dr and try not to stress, all the very best and keep us informed as to how it all goes.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

Thank you😘
