Really hoping someone can give me some advice. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago with gallstones I have had enough of the pain now as I'm so scared of surgey that I have not had the operation but the past week I have been up every night with the pain...the pain is in my back and at the front of my stomach right at the to (it's making me want to sit straight all the time) this is only happening at night time. I try not to eat past 6pm every night and I am overweight so I'm worried they will make me have open surgey. Every night I'm up in pain I'm sick and a few hours later it goes off enough so I can go to sleep, but in the past week when I've been sick there is blood I'm also having to go to the hospital next week for a scan on my stomach as they think I might have cists, if I have then I've got to have a major operation I'm hoping they will do it together.
As someone said to me you can't carry on suffering like this, it isnt going away so you don't really have a choice you need treatment. I too was terrified. It was the first and last thing on my mind everyday. I got through it my state of mind worse than the operation I think. If its making you ill it needs dealing with. I read posts on here many times before my op and it helped to know others felt just the same as me and were ok. Good luck hope you soon feel better.
Please don't suffer like this. I was really terrified of surgery as I'm terribly overweight but I had no choice as the pain was incredible and I also had pancreatitis. The op was the best thing I've dondone. Had it oct 14th and I feel great now. Please go and get it sorted and don't worry xx good luck all the best
Thank you I'm hoping next week when they scan me they say it's all down to my gallstones and I can get it sorted I have 2 kids and a new job which I don't really want to take time off I'm in so much pain right now I've got a hot water bottle against my right shoulder blade I also supper terbbible with bad back swear it's all related
I had surgery in September for gallstones trust us when we say have it done honestly you will not regret it one of the best decisions I made
Hi
nobody wants an operation but the pain will mean you'll end up crossing the days off till your operation.
when I woke up after my operation I felt so much better dispite recovering from it.
i wept a couple of days later because I felt so much better . It makes you fatigued very nauseous body aches ,back aches etc ... You'll feel like a new person.
In the meantime to stop pain ..
be really really strict especially as you don't want to be rushed in as an emergency with a blocked bile duct.
eat no fat , skimmed milk ok , no butter, marg etc , no rich food avoid red meat , eat steamed fish and steamed chicken . No chocolate the fat and caffeine are triggers. I lived on boiled potatoes with light mayonnaise mashed in boiled veg really boiled so soft and low fat bland meat ... No caffeine ..camomile tea excellent..
why
because when you eat fat , hard to digest foods and caffeine your stomach requests extra bile from your gallbladder to digest your gallbladder contracts and all hell breaks loose so to speak ... You either have a vomiting attack as a stone gets sqeezed in a duct or your stones all rub together making the inside of your gallbladder sore and inflamed ..gnawing pain under right rib and in back...
good news while waiting for operation the bland boring diet will settle your gallbladder down you can avoid the colic attacks and minimilize the gnawing pain...but who wants to live like that for long ....
so as soon as you can get it removed ...hope that helps xxx
Hi there please don't be afraid. I was like you and even cancelled my surgery last year. I had suffered from years if digestive problems and was finally diagnosed with gallstones several years ago. I was very reluctant to have my gallbladder removed and thought making a few lifestyle changes would help. I have been a vegetarian for decades, don't drink or smoke and have always been health conscious so the only other thing I could do was become more active and cut out anything with a high fat content. Didn't work for me and I continued to have bad gallbladder attacks. I knew I had to get myself sorted out as I was fed up feeling so ill all the time. I had my preoperative assessment on 01\10\14 and even then I was thinking maybe I should cancel as I was so scared of the operation. However I didn't and with great support from family, friends and coming along here I had keyhole surgery to remove my gallbladder on 29\12\14. The staff at the hospital were fantastic as they knew how nervous I was. I was at hospital for 7.30am, first on the list so was in theatre for shortly after 9am. Before I knew it I was in the recovery room approximately 11am and everything had went well. They had to make the incision on my bellybutton slightly bigger as the biggest gallstone was 4.5 centimetres! The nurse presented me with this keepsake when I was fully awake. So I had 4 incisions, 2 small on my right abdomen, 1 small below my breast bone and the one at my navel which was the main incision which needed 5 stitches. I had no sickness after the anaesthetic and slept on and off for several hours. After I had something to eat and drink and was deemed able to go home I was discharged from hospital shortly after 6pm that same day. I have been a bit stiff and sore around the wounds but they are healing well and I have been making the most of my kindle and taking things easy. I really do wonder why I was so nervous and didn't get it done before. Hope all goes well for you and if you want to ask me any questions please don't hesitate x
Danielle you have lived in pain long enough. I had my gall stone attack Oct. 23 andhad my surgery Nov. 11. I'm glad ihad it.
Until you have your surgery use and ice pack to help with the pain, I slept with mine a few nights. Eat low fat foods, drink a lot of water.
Did the doctor give you pills? Mine did and it helped me a lot before I had my surgery.
It was my first time going under. It was a great sleep. Waking up was weird but I wasn't sick to my stomache.
You will have good days and bad days but the surgery is worth it.
Let us know how you are doing. Any questions just ask.
