I am in a discussion group Irritable Bowel Syndrome. What I really have is gallstones but there was no category for that. I know quite a few people who have had gallstones so was quite surprised not to find a discussion group for that. Can anyone help?
Hi sarah - help with gall stones?
I had my hall bladder out 1.5 yrs ago so not much I don't know !
Had two gallstones, one in neck of gallbladder and the other in bile duct. Removal of gallbladder. Was in a lot of severe pain, in and out of the
A&E department removal only option. What would you like to know?
Thanks for replying Janet.
I was diagnosed with gallstones a month ago. Very on and off with stomach cramps and pain in my right side. Having this most days. Having to be very careful what to eat.
Did they manage to remove gallbladder with keyhole surgery?
Are you still having to be careful what you eat?
I am taking buscopan (bowel muscle relaxing tablets) which really help.
Also Ibuprofen and Co codamol 30 for the pain.
Trouble is unless I become worse (emergency case) there is no point in going to the hospital as they will not do anything. They have already discharged me once. 6 - 9 month waiting list.
Hi Sarah food is they key to keep things settled till u have surgery.
No fat nothing with fat in, grill everything, salad dressings are no good, no BBQ
I had mine removed key hole, mine was full and over flowing so was throwing up so much and passing the stones going to the loo.
2 had gone to the bile duct but passed them selves.
I am not over weight and didnt fit into the box of gall bladder so took months to get looked at in the end went privately had it out in a week.
I didn't need pain killers as its food that sets it off so if u can do the food u can manage it I lived off:
Grilled chicken, grilled salmon, plain potatos, rice, plain biscuits, crackers, water to drink.
If I ate out would dab all grease off food or just eat plain pasta.
I have a list of what to eat and what to avoid it was my bible if u would like to know more just ask xx
Hi Sarah,
Kate has summed it all really well for you. My consultant got me on the fodmap diet and never looked back. Due to other issues I have need to stay on it for life. BUT by what I was told you should be able to eat most things.
Hi yes can eat anything but it does change your bowels so you may be prone to constipation or the other way - it will differ with food and it's only because the organ isn't there to break the fat down .
Janet this diet can you tell me more?
Kate, it eliminates dairy, glueton, wheat, lactose,. Sounds harsh but for me it works. I printed out two lists of what you can or cannot have, keep them on my fridge as guide lines, plus helped me loose weight. But need to read up on it. For me I also have to eliminate some of the fruit as one of my conditions is Barretts Oesophagus and also diverticulitus which also takes away other things. Yes very limited for me but it works. Just have to find the trigger foods. Hope this helps.
Ok that Makes sense that it works by taking out those factors - reads like what was my gall bladder diet.
This is early days for me as the effects of the anti biotics can last 6-8 weeks after finishing them and only 3 weeks in my tummy is so sore and bloated and tender wake up in the morning and as the day goes on it gets worse so eating little and drinking loads of water and trying to get my tummy muscles back after surgery so all in all my gut and bowels a little upset and it seems the anxiety and upset from miss carriage is holding out in my tummy to
Might be a good idea to pop back and see your doctor. Have a chat. Stress is something which will aggravate the IBS.
Yes we had chats !!!
Their answer is anti acids had all blood tests and no probs so anti dep and hypnotherapy
Hi! Just to ask I have bowel problems but someone keeps saying to me it's your gallbladder. How is this connected to your viewers and what are the symptons. Sorry for jumping in on your post, Thanks and good luck Sarah xxx
Hi sarah there are quite a few discussion forums on here about gallstones and gallblader removal. I read a lot of useful info on here before I had my operation. If you haven't already, type in the search box at the top right of the page gallstones then when it takes you to the next page look where it says search everywhere, there is a drop down menu and choose discussion forums. There is then a list of things being discussed. Hope this helps you find some answers
Before I was diagnosed with gallstones one GP thought it was eighter gallstones or Irritable Bowel Syndrome so the symptoms are obviously similar.
