hi everyone we spoken about the pains over had from my gallstones finally my surgery finally arrived 2nd April told the lady from the booking office I was in a lot of pain and she sorted it out for me quickly… hopefully it’s not cancelled due to the virus. anyone on here had their gallbladder removed how did it go
hi i had mine removed 2 years ago it went very well . i wish u luck .. not sure what procedures are being cancelled due to virus but i do know where i am they have cancelled surgeries that arent life threating
wish you well
I had my gallbladder out 6 weeks ago today and it went really well. I did not have gallstones, but did have sludge and a low functioning gallbladder. Be sure to follow ALL of the directions your surgeon gives to you and also be sure to follow instructions for after surgery. The body does a remarkable job healing the incisions. They hurt for a few days and then you notice that they hurt less and less. You can still bend down and reach for things, but you will be restricted with how much weight you can pick up/lift. Remember, your surgeon was inside your body snipping away so there are things in there that are raw and fragile even though you can’t see or feel them. Try to be in good physical shape before surgery, eat very healthy and drink lots of water and your recovery might go much better than you expect. I was back at the gym walking on the treadmill 5 days after surgery and I am 70 years old.
The only thing that keeps bothering me is the diarrhea. I was told that it can take a month or longer for the GI tract to settle down and here it has been 6 weeks and I’m still waiting. I was told to give it 4 more weeks and if it hasn’t gotten better they will test me for SIBO. I have been on a saturated & trans fat free diet since last December and just tried to eat some 2% cheese today. So far so good, but my “issue” happens in the morning after I get up. I’m not sure if you are dealing with mainly pain or if you have the nausea and diarrhea as well. Anyway, just give your body time to heal. Sorry this is so long, but sometimes it is good to have more information than not enough. Best wishes!!!
yes I am eating healthy at moment exercising yes I am just in pain with it at moment
I’m so sorry you are in pain, but your surgery will be here before you know it. You sound like you are doing all the right things so now you just have to deal with the pain as best you can and wait for the day of the surgery to come. One thing you have probably already figured out is to wear pants with an elastic waist or a dress to the hospital and for about a week after surgery. Wearing tie up shoes was not a problem for me or even putting on socks. You will be able to dress yourself with no problem. If your surgery will be done via laparoscope you will have 4 small incisions (about 1" long) and one will be at your belly button. Are you on a restricted diet due to the gallstones? Does anyone else in your family have/had gallbladder problems? Did your doctor give you anything for the pain?
the hospital didn’t tell me to wear any specific night wear clothing no didn’t give me any pain relief for gallstones pain yes nana had multiple gallstones like me she had the open heart surgery though
Hi Gemma, I am new to this forum but I did read various forums when I was suffering with my gallbladder. I had my gallbladder removed by keyhole surgery three weeks ago.
I sympathise with you, the pain is dreadful. I got to the point were I was getting frightened to eat, and dreaded going to bed in case I woke up in the early hours with an attack. Eating very low fat, small portion meals at regular intervals helped me.
My surgery went really well and when I woke up after surgery I felt more of a discomfort and pressure than pain. As soon as I was able to I got up and walked around with a nurse. My mouth was very dry so I drank lots of tea and water. I did not experience any of the shoulder pain from the gas used during surgery that others described. I was discharged about 5 hours after surgery and slept well.
My incisions were glued and healed very well. I had a little constipation but that cleared on day 3 post op after drinking lots of fresh orange juice. I have had normal stools ever since, just a little lighter in colour than pre-surgery. Everything appears to be working as it should. I have so far tolerated everything I have eaten. I feel so much better and so relieved to be shot of my gallbladder and the fear of having an attack. I feel fortunate to have had such an excellent surgeon.
My tips are to keep as mobile as possible after surgery, do the deep breathing exercises they recommend, drink orange juice to help with constipation and to boost vitamin C, wear elasticated waist trousers or jogging bottoms, wear dark coloured t-shorts/tops (not see through) as wearing a bra could be irritating to one of the incisions.
You will need to take a dressing gown and slippers to the hospital. You will wear a hospital gown for the surgery. I recommend taking a small bag overnight bag just in case you need to be kept in overnight.
Best of luck, I hope all goes as well for you as it did for me.
Forgot to mention, Buscopan tablets seemed to help when I had an attack Read about it on another forum and gave them a try myself.
yea the pain horrible feels like cramping dont it like period pain I am taking slippers and pjammers dressing gown I’ve got a bag read and I will take some over night stay clothes with me but with this contrivirus have a feeling it will be cancelled
My hospital didn’t ask me to bring anything with me except my insurance card and ID and to wear something comfortable. That was it. I went home in the same clothes I wore to the hospital and my surgery was outpatient. If you are staying a night or 2 in the hospital then you could take a change of clothes (to go home in) if you want to, but you wear the hospital gown while in the hospital bed or bring your own. Best wishes!
