Gas and Palpitations

can gas/trapped wind cause palpitations?? if so, how are they related?

Hi Sab,

For me yes and very much so.

There is a thing called the vegus nerve that runs from head to stomach.

For me, when trapped air in my belly snakes around sometimes, it causes some of my ectopics.

For me, when I get over a certain weight, i.e. big belly, and no exercise. It’s almost like I have a larger stomach and so more room for air to circulate and aggravate my vagus nerve triggering my atrial ectopics, Also my being overweight when it happens is also accompanied with bad diet and zero exercises. Then, when they get really bad and fear kicks in I eat better, less junk food, less sugar, much smaller sensible portions and start doing half an hour cross trainer cardio 3 o 4 times a week, the weight falls off, and they stop again. So from maybe 10 a minute at its worst to down to a few a day as is normal. For me, the BIGGEST challenge is not getting complacent when they go and STILL going to gym, and Still eating healthy. That’s my challenge today. Also over indulging an having a massive meal as I understand it can also put pressure on the vagus nerve and cause ectopics, I have had this too. This is all just my experience and I am not a doctor. but yes gas in my experience can cause ectopics, but please always check in with heart Dr to access you properly!!!

Causes more pressure on the vagus nerve that is implicated as a way for parasympathetic signals to interfere with heart rhythms.

Do u mind reading my post if possible and letting me know if it is something similar I have. You seem to know your stuff on this subject.

Kind regards

Matt
