Gastritis after Gallbladder Removal

I was wondering why months after my surgery I was still feeling awful but I now have my answer! The doctor told me that some people get gastritis after gb removal. He pressed on my stomach and it hurt so much I could barely breathe! I've been taking carafate for 5 days now and it's wonderful. I can't believe how much better I feel. Not like I was before my gallbladder went bad - but better! I wanna make sure I eat a perfect diet so that my stomach will fully heal. Have any of you developed gastritis after surgery? What foods settled well with you? So far apples and bananas seem to do really well for me but I can't eat that for every meal! Hope you're all staying positive! It's definitely hard sometimes!

I have the same but haven't found the right food. Please post when you find them.

How much carafate do you take?

Hi Nancy,

Today I ate some rye bread and that went over pretty well! I'm gonna try some brown rice tomorrow. I take 4 carafate pills a day! Each one hour before I eat!

Sorry you've developed gastritis.

Try BRATS: Bananas, Rice, Apple sauce, Tea and Toast. This is a short term diet for people who are having problems with digestion. It is used in some hospitals. Use it until symptoms settle, then gradually reintroduce other foods.

Hope this helps!

I agree with your doctor about gastritis after gall bladder removal.  I had my gall bladder out three years ago and a year after developed acute gastritis.  I still suffer with it.. I hope you are doing better.  I use chamamele tea and eat small meals, kind of bland and avoid all spicy foods.  You have to test your tolerance, each person is different.  There are sites on line that gives you lists of vegetables.  Chicken and fish are best.  It is a pain, I agree.  Hopefully, you are over this already.. Obviously mine is chronic.   I do believe the gall bladder removal was the culprit!   Good luck!
