A month ago I started having a ton of issues including stomach pain and pain underneath my shoulder blades that almost felt like crampy heartburn. I got an endoscopy done and found out I have mild gastritis and barretts esophagus. I still have this shoulder blade pain every day a month later and it is mostly on the right side. It feels like it wraps around the front a bit. Some parts of my back and ribs are sore to the touch. It kind of feels like my shoulder blade is going to come out of place if i move too much. I am very worried that there is something wrong with my gallbladder or another organ. I have been to the ER four times in the past month and all the doctors said the back pain is from the gastritis. I am currently on zantac once a day for the stomach acid. Does this shoulder blade pain sound normal with gastritis?
when the stomach produces too much acid it affects the joints and makes them more tender thn normal. I have had this problem for years, and shoulder and back is espec affected. I think the problem is uric acid from what I have read, and lactic acid makes muscles painful - a build up of uric acid crystals in joints is what causes gout. Long term this joint problem becomes a form of arthritis and you will be prescribed ibuprofen; the cyle continues further by this medication making more gastric problems. I read a good book on how to reverse this joint prob. without drugs, by taking a special diet, which includes cider vinegar, and taking baths using epsom salts (neutralizing the acid). avoiding tomatoes/acidic foods. Many people give testimony to being cured
You need to be careful this shoulder problm doesnt become permanent and spread to other joints; the pain is comiing from the cartilage 'cushion' breaking down via the acid, and bone grinds against bone; it can become also become fibromyalgia. I found taking more calcium magnesium and boron helps to repair the problem, and cutting out all/most acidic foods. Though drinking diluted lemon juice and cider vinegar (both acidic) have the affect of telling the stomach enzymes to produce less acid
Thanks so much for the help. It definitely helped me stop being so anxious until my next doctors appointment. I'm going to see if I can get a scan done to rule out any other problems. Im going to take your suggestions and try to change my diet in more natural ways to reduce the acid. Thank you again!
Hi did you get to the bottom of your problem and have you found any relief? I have had upper right abdominal pain on and off for several years accompannied by the exact shoulder pain you have including the tenderness, sometimes the shoulder pain is worse than the stomach pain. I have tried ranitidine, omeprazole lansopazol etc and nothing seems to help..over the last few years I have had ultrasound (normal)and endoscopy only showed mild gastritis...I am at my wits end and feel like a nuisance but it is affecting my quality of life and makes me very grumpy. I am going hiking in Yosemite California in May and scared my trip will be ruined if i have a flare up..i am 60 and suffered IBS since my 20s but shoulder pain only appeared in last 5 years.
I hope you are feeling better..readung your post made me feel i am not alone in this. ☺
Hello,
I actually ended up getting my gallbladder removed in August because it was full of gallstones. However, a couple weeks later I was still getting the back pain and I'm still trying to figure it out. I have also found out I have kidney issues where I'm losing my potassium and sodium. Right now I'm taking Zantac and nexium for GERD. It doesn't help with the shoulder pain though. I think it is related to acid or the gallbladder somehow because it seems to happen once I eat something with even a little bit of fat. Nothing takes the pain away not even Percocet so I know it's not muscular. It disappears while I'm sleeping then it's back once I eat in the morning. I really hope we can figure it out soon because I don't know what to do anymore as I'm only 23 and it's ruining my life. I'm dealing with chronic anxiety and depression over all of this. Thank you for the comment it made me feel better and I hope you figure it out as well. I'll post any updates I have
Thanks for your reply x I know it isn't my gallbladder as had all the tests and it isn't related to eating. The pain is worse in my neck and shoulder when I move..I would think it is muscular but only occurs when my stomach is playing up..very odd. Constant belching also.
Sorry you are still having probs, so young too, my daughter has similar problems it must be a family thing. Makes me grumpy and depressed too 😢 i am going back to see my GP next week and will insist on seeing specialist..i know they think it is all brought on by anxiety and stress but I can't continue like this it is affecting my whole life.
Take care and let me know how things go for you x
Your not alone, im also experiencing aholuder and back pain in left part aside from having a gastritis i also felt anxious and my life is not normal anymore. I am afraid to go out alone, i've suffered this for almost 4years now i already fainted once. It is realy ruining my life. Im taking omeprazole on and off . I've been strictly eating non acidic and non far food recently and it eases my heartburn and nausea. I don't know how long could i bear this misery i've got. Hope you're now ok cnb102
Just a warning Omeprazole can make you faint and be light headed. I also caused me to have a temporary heart murmur to the point a heart surgeon suspected a faulty heart valve turns out nothing was wrong it was Omeprazole causing side effects. I have friends who have also crashed cars without realising how. One drove into a car in front and said her mind just went and the other drove through the garage door again not realising what they were doing. I also used to shed a lot of head hair in bed and the shower everyday and my friend was losing a lot of hair and went to see a consultant but it turned out Omeprazole can cause heavy hair loss. Once I came off this drug I improved no end no more heart murmur no more dizzy or fainting spells and no more hair loss thank God.
Ranitadine works a few months tops but affected my liver enzymes and becomes useless after a few months too
Hello I also have back pain too with my gastiritis
I'm having same symptoms. Was in ER twice. I have gastritis but getting a HIDA SCAN done and mesenteric doppler test to check for gall bladder disease and ischemic colitis. I had ischemic colitis in 2009. Horrible! I'm also having left shoulder and back pain. Discomfort at times in my left arm and up my neck. These are all signs of blocked arteries in the heart. If it doesn't go away...I'm insisting on a heart test.
i have had this shoulder pain for over a year now also a globus sensation in throat. ive been having abdominal pain and pain when i have a bowel movement buidling to pass. i throw up bile and acid at least once a week and im nauseated almost 24 hours a day as well as nerve pain in left arm neck etc and back pain. i suffered with gerd for 20 years and was on wrong med for it for that long. gastro put me on dexilant 60mg once day and zantac once a day. had an endo and have esophagitis and nodes which were removed. in short i have seen every specialist from heart to lung to ent etc. it comes down to a digestion problem and im going to see a liver specialist now along with my gastroenltololgist and demand more tests as my liver functions are all now high. my family doctor has decided he thinks its a liver or pancreas thing which makes 100 per cent sense as its kinda the same symptons i had 20 years ago when i had so many blocked ducts and full gallbladder that they had to remove it by surgery. i recommend a liver specialist have a look at the organs in your abdomen
digestive problems can be heriditary my family had a genetics test done and there are genes that are missing or become deformed to produce major digestive problems and that missing gene also causes mood disorders as well as some luekemia and lymphomas.I have major digestive problems from gerd to ibs to bone problems etc and my son has all the same exact problems at half my age. My dad has same problems same as 4 others on my dads side. dna testing will tell you if your family has this mutated gene
see a liver specialist i have blocked duct in pancreas maybe ive been told or a fatty liver. i had my gallbladder out 20 years ago so full of gallstones had to remove it. i changed my diet after but not enough i guess so the fats that caused the gallstones still produced and since they had no gallbladder to form in they formed in my pancreas and caused a bit of a fatty liver. a gastroentologist doesnt help the organs in abdomen that is a liver doctor
gerd is terrible broke down bones on me to as well as cracked all my teeth to point they cant be fixed and fall apart. its wrecked my entire throat all the way to my larynx. doctors not paying attention had me on the weakest gerd medication for 20 years and not one doctor every did anything to change it for me untill i see a new gastro who put me on dexilant and zantac gerd is getting bit better but to late to fix anything it has already deteriorized on me
Hi, I recently been diagnosed with GERD and Gastritis. I've read up alot which I seem to have a classic case of IBS-D. I have this lump feeling in my throat, bloating, and diarrhea. Lately I've been experiencing pain in my back, shoulders, arms, neck even my knees and legs are beginning to hurt. In reading everyone comments, I guess this is common. What other things have you tried and test performed? I have an upcoming appt and I feel my Dr thinks I'm exaggerating at times. I am on Prilosec only but I do take a daily probiotic which seems to give me some comfort. I'm so tired of living this way. I'm suffering from anxiety also behind this. I've also had my gallbladder removed about 10yrs ago. What would you suggest me to request my doctor to do? I caught he'll just to get her to send me for the ERG.
Hello Monica,
Did you get any answers? I seem to have the most symptoms like yours. I have severe upper back pain like my gallbladder is insane, but my gallbladder was removed 3years ago.
I have had blood work, x rays, and ct scans to no avail. I was hoping you have an update.
Hi Julie, did you get any answers. I am having the same issues with my arm neck and back. I have had many test and blood work done with no answers. This is consuming me, o want my carefree life back
Hi I was wondering, hoping you might have some answers to report as I am in the same boat and am desperate for answers.
Did you ever get any answers? My symptoms are so much like yours. I have not had any known gallbladder issues but I have had fatty liver before after the birth of my first daughter but that was years ago. I’ve had gerd since my 20’s and I’m am now 40. It has gotten so unbearable. I’m sick all the time and can barely function. I have had many tests but have yet to be scoped which is next. My pain in my upper left back and chest sent me to ER last year with the doctor thinking it could be my aorta so I had a CT scan with contrast. Nothing showed but now along with the back and chest pain I have been having severe burning pain from my throat/chest down to my stomach. It’s like I’m on fire on the insides it is so intense! I have nausea and constant stomach pain. Sharp pains throughout my digestive tract. I also have fibromyalgia so I pretty much hurt everywhere and am exhausted all the time. Chronic headaches. I’m at my wits end! I hope you got some answers you could share with me!
