gastroscopy Complications

Ive had GERD for about 8 years and final the docs said I need a gastroscopy. Ive just had it under no sedation. After the camara was inserted it made me gag, which I expected but then I began to be sick a large amount of water over and over again. They had to abandon the gastroscopy for my own saftey. I hadnt eaten or drank for 17hrs before. The nurses where baffled as to how there could still be large amounts of water still in my stomach, anyone had a similar experience? They think this could be the problem I have that my stomach doesnt digest correctly.

Thanks

Ste

Hi, sorry to hear about your experience. My first endoscopy (just the spray) made me gag a bit too, but I wasn't sick. The next one I had was done with a sedative and was much better so ask that they sedate you.

As for contents still being in your stomach after 17 hours, all I can think of, for what I have read, is that your pyloric sphincter may not be working correctly.

Good luck with sorting it out.

Yes. I was completely sedated and when I woke the doctor said she had to suction my stomach because of the large amt of fluid. She sent me for a emptying stomach study where u eat radioactive eggs and then they x Ray your stomach for 4 hours. Turns out I have gastroparesis. Basically my stomach digests food very slowly. My only symptom was reflux. Good luck to u!

Definately try to have this redone under general anesthesia. Good luck, seems like you need some answers.
