Anybody used gel polish on nails before surgery? I understand I need to have 2 hand nails & all 5 toes without polish on surgery day. Thinking about removing gel 6 weeks before surgery with a nice pedicure. Any ideas? Probably a good idea to let the nails breath anyway as I have used gel for years but concerned that nails may be very weak. Aah- to give up pretty nails but mobility will be nice after THR.  I can't trim my toenails now by myself but a pedicure the day before surgery may not be wise as there is the possibility of infections and I don't want anymore problems with recovery. Guess hubby will need to help trim the toes.

Wait and ask at your pre op...I had acrylic fingernails and toes and didn't have to take them off...they tested the finger monitor thing to make sure it was OK and it was!

I had a mobile pedicure every 3 weeks post op and I managed....still a bit diffuclt to do my left foot..I had a right THR....but its a good excuse to have proper pedicures...

I am 5 days post op and had to be completely gel free on op day!!!! I removed gel 3 days before and filed them short and buffed them.

I had bitten my nails for more than 50 years before discovering Calgel but will be back having my nails done asap lol xxx

I think all hospitals are different. I was told to remove acrylic nails and hair extensions before my op! Kind of enjoying the break now though, will be a nice treat to get them done again!

Hi, I use Gel polish and had to remove it all before surgery.  They like to see your nails to check on the colour during surgery.  I removed polish a week before surgery and replaced once I was out and about again.  I still find it difficult to do my toes after 6 months so get my daughter to do it for me!  Good luck.  Valerie

Should have said...mine WAS clear..french mani style so they could check colour of fingers underneath...

I had a gel French manicure done before op with clear polish on my toes and left my fingers nails free of polish

In that case you will have to check when you have your pre assessment. Good luck Valerie

Good advice. I'll see if a French manicure would be ok. Just one more thing I am concerned about with THR. Thanks!

I asked at my prop and they wanted bare fingernails. For me my toes take priority and so I had a pedicure done just before my op date using clear varnish
