I am 11 days post op after having bilateral bunion surgery. I have experienced a strange side effect in that my eye sight seems to have deteriorated. I usually wear my glasses on and off for eye strain but can read writing on PC or Kindle without. Ever since surgery I can not read on Kindle or PC without glasses and even with I feel I need a stronger prescription. I thought this was due to codeine at first but have not taken this for about 5 days now and eye sight h
as not improved.
Has anyone else had this side effect? What other side effects have you had?
That doesn't sound right, havent heard of anyone else complaining of eye sight problems, I would see someone about that if it doesnt clear up.

Hi den, the only thing I can think of is that because you are sitting around for most of the day maybe you are using you eyes a lot more with reading, computer etc far more than you would normally?? It could be extra strain on them & they are tired? I doubt very much that it could be anything to do with the operation at all. Take care
Hi Daren
I design E-learning for a job and so am usually on a PC all day and then also read on my Kindle during an hour long commute and so I am not sure that it is extra use. I have tried researching and eye damage is a very rare side effect. Also read something about muscles being tired after GA and so not focusing so quickly.
When I'm up and about I will go to the optician to get checked out. I'm not too worried but definitely seems to be post op as I was reading kindle without glasses just before going down for op. When I couldn't see well enough to read day after I put it down to meds but like I say day 11 and no real improvement. Interestingly it seems to be the distance that has changed. I can now see better with kindle at arms length. The opposite of before.
You need to contact your specialist ASAP before your condition worsens. I wish you all the very best of luck.
Thanks for the advice. I am seeing my consultant tomorrow. So far no change, no better or no worse since op.
Let us know how you get on!
