Hi all. I have had a few steroid injections directly into joints but when I went my clinic appointment, due to my CRP levels of 31 my rheumatologist administered a generalised steroid injection into my right buttock. I’m on week 8 of methotrexate too. I now have a pain shooting down my leg and unbearable pain in my kidneys. has anyone ever had this or have any advice on what I should do?

Thanks in advance

Hi Tina

Sounds like your best bet is to bring your CRP levels down. High CRP = Inflammation, and Inflammation = pain.
What worked for me was a diet that rules out all the inflammatory foods. It reduced my pain and swelling to nothing in a short time. Now I have normal CRP levels. I don’t know if this is a cure, but as long as i stay on this way of eating i don’t have any pain or swelling or gut issues (i also had IBS before I changed my diet)

Hi Tina,

if I were you I would contact your rheumatologist asap. Six weeks after starting methotrexate I too started feeling really unwell with all kinds of things happening to my body. I rang her and she insisted I stop them immediately. Good luck.

The deep i.m. injection is a recognised way of managing general inflammation - but it sounds as if he might have got a bit close to the sciatic nerve. The renal pain worries me - and if you can’t see your GP as an emergency before the weekend I think at least a call to out of hours and possibly even a visit to the ED might be called for. In fact - that is what I would do. Even low dose methotrexate can cause kidney problems - better safe than sorry.

Hi gloria, many thanks for your reply also. As I replied to Eileen, I am going to speak to my GP tomorrow. Despite taking the MTX for 10 weeks now my CRP levels are at 31 so I don’t think it’s working anyway. All my inflammation markers are up high. In the 10 weeks I have been taking it I have had 4 colds and suffering a chest infection as we speak. Thanks again. Take care x

Hi Sukes. I think I may try and get hold of my rheumatologist. My pain hasn’t gone but I would sooner try and pup up with the pain I had instead of extra ones. I was so scared to take the Methotrexate in the beginning, it took me 5 weeks to pluck up the courage. thanks for replying x

Hi Tina, I think contacting the rheumatologist is the way to go. A couple of months after coming off the methotrexate, they tried me on hydroxychloroquine, again I had to come off those due to very serious side effects. It seems my body cannot tolerate drugs, I hope yours is not the same. Good luck x

I had to be taken off Methotrexate as it didn’t agree with me at all , I’ve had R.A for 30 years , I’m on the Benepali Injection now but that doesn’t feel like it’s effective anymore although I also have Fibromyalgia as well
