Hi everyone, I've posted before and thank you for your replies so far.
I'm just wondering, how long do you think side effects last for? I'm in week five of 10mg and my dry mouth and headaches have gone. But my jaw clenching and tensing up constantly is still a problem. I hope it'll disappear soon, as I'm fed up of having to consciously relax my body when I notice I'm really tensed, which is every few minutes!
Hello Smudger11. I hate to tell u this but I've been on citalopram a year & couple months and I still do that especially when I'm watching tv. I thought that was just something I was doing but I've seen that posted more now. It's weird I wonder why we are doing that. But anyway I'm weening myself off this med. take care and wish you the best
Hi Smudger. the problem with side effects is that they vary so significantly from one person to another, both in terms of severity and how long they last. Like Teal has said, my jawclenching and teeth grinding stayed put. I stopped taking cit about 2 years ago but the habit of teeth grinding that I'd developed while on it has never really gone away although it isn't so bad now. I spoke to my doctor about a mouth guard for overnight use but they felt this would probably do more harm than good due to the fact I have bone density loss in the gums. I have friends still on cit who didnt have any side effects whatsover and comments on here I've seen where those with side effects got over them very quickly. Generally it would seem that for those who do have side effects, in most cases they start to disappear within three months give or take. Have a try at relaxation techniques, meditation etc., which will help with the tensing and so on. xx
Hi. I also thought this was just something I did, but noticed I do it more in what should be a relaxing situation ie watching tv, lying in bed before going to sleep, browsing the internet...I grit my teeth mainly. I have been on C for about a year and I came off abruptly over Christmas...which I now regret. Just keep your GP posted and try to focus on somthing else. Sorry, that's not much help, but just thought I would let you know it's 'normal' to have these annoyihng symptoms.
