Genital herpes diagnosis

Can genital herpes be diagnosed by a blood draw?

yes but you have to wait 3 months after the exposure to take a blood test. also it has to be an igg type specific test.

This is all my doctor did, and a tech called to give me results. Called in a prescription of Valtrex. When I went back and finally got to see my doctor instead of a Physicians Assistant, I was told I didn’t have it. I have just about lost my mind over this. She referred me to a regular medical doctor. I have been in living hell since 2008, since technician called me. All I had was rash on back of both thighs, no pain. Wish I could have got proper medical help then!

can you have herpes, and not test positive?

not likely. it doesn’t look for the virus but antibodies your immune system creates when you are infected. so the Igg blood test is pretty reliable. did you test?

I did at 12 weeks. came back negative but all my issues started when I had protected sex with someone that was hsv+.

can you describe your problems? was the 12 weeks after the hsv2 positive partner or before? 12 weeks should be a good indication you are not infected

I had tingling then itchiness then rawness in the first week. then had an itchy butt for a while. as well as not having the urge to pee but only going when the pain of pressure hurt. burning sensation on thighs. all for about a month. itchiness on and off for the last 5 months. noticed what look like small sores. yes after .

Did you went back to the doc? any updates?

No, I have no insurance. Everyday brings something new!

did you ever have an actual outbreak?

One bump on left thigh, and one on lower back!
