Hey Everyone,
I was recently diagnosed with Genital HSV-1 about 2 months ago. My initial outbreak was horrendous. My outbreak was triggered by taking antibiotics for my first ever UTI. It was an awful combination, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Since then, I've had a few more outbreaks which I've been told is unusual to have multiple HSV1 outbreaks in a year.
The outbreaks have become milder though, but seem to occur after my period. I'm currently having an outbreak( just a single blister), and WITH valtrex (2000 mg twice a day for once day only - its an episodic prescription) it has been 9 days and my blister still hasn't popped, oh and its absolutely massive. I ended up taking my episodic prescription 2 additional times, because I felt like I could feel the onset of more blisters. However, this blister has just doubled in size and has not popped.
I guess what I'm hoping to get answers for is if this is normal, the after the period occurrence and also the blister not popping after 9 days - its quite large and painful and I just want it to go away already. Will this only happen for a little bit until my antibodies can fight the infection, or would you suggest suppressive therapy?
I'm also looking for details on how people prevent their future outbreaks without medication - specifically women, is L-Lysine appropriate?
I'm seeing my doctor on Monday, and her and I are going to discuss options but I would really like to hear the advice of people who live through this.
Thanks so much everyone.
